We were lucky to catch up with Matthew Winstead recently and have shared our conversation below.
Matthew, appreciate you joining us today. Have you ever had an amazing boss, mentor or leader leading you? Can you us a story or anecdote that helps illustrate why this person was such a great leader and the impact they had on you or their team?
I’ve had advice from hip hop legend project pat.. he was telling me one time how every song I do I need to do a video for it. In today’s music scene everybody wants visuals..

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I go by Lil Matt . I’ve been doin music for over 20 yrs. Started out jus freestyling on a karaoke machine an when my best friend died April 15th 2004 I wrote my first song and started to take it serious . I’ve worked with project pat, young bleed , lachat, lilbwyte, frayser boy, feind , cstruggs, lil noid, bizarre from d12, dj zirk, an more. I recently started a clothing brand “coast goat” about a year ago an it has been endorsed by young bleed, jorg masvidal, grove hero, dj M stacks from shady 45 an more..
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I wish I would of got on the internet grind sooner.. I was always more ole school an liked selling cds out my trunk. I did eventually get on MySpace back in the day an had a decent following of over 20k fans.. I jis wish I would of got on there sooner cuz it only lasted a couple of years then went away..

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
When I had my first kid , I took a break from performing shows an dropping music. I think that let me know how much I really wanted to do music. After 5 years I started back an worked with some of my favorite artist that I grew up listening to..
