We were lucky to catch up with Matthew Reineke recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Matthew thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. So, what do you think about family businesses? Would you want your children or other family members to one day join your business?
None of our Photo Booth Companies would exist without my mother’s business of commercial photography. She started in the industry, 30 years ago, in New Orleans and is now the largest commercial photographer in the city. Growing up around this really piqued my interest, and I even used to help on jobs throughout the years. When I graduated college, I started up and ran the Photo Booth companies as a sort of offshoot from the commercial photography. We have been working hand in hand ever since.
Matthew, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. My mom started a professional photography company, “Riverview Photography”, 30 years ago, which is now the largest commercial photography company in New Orleans. Growing up, we would often be asked to help with events, whether it would be assisting at a photo shoot or selling a Santa photos during the holidays. I started to enjoy this type of work, getting the chance to be in a new place or venue in the city every day, having the flexibility to make my own hours, and just meeting new people from across the globe who would come down to New Orleans for events. When I graduated college with a degree in advertising, I still knew that I wanted to be a part of the photography world.
Photo booths in 2018 had just started to become more and more prevalent at events. My mom’s company was doing some photo booths here and there, but when I started, the plan was to take it to the next level. Since Riverview Photography was known for its more traditional photography, we spun off that part and it became New Orleans Photo Booth Company. We thought a name that was simple and to the point would be the best for people to find us on the web.
By mid-2018, we were ready to launch the website and get to work! Everything seemed to click right away, with the website receiving many inquiries, and we ended up doing 100 events in the first year.
Excited by the quick success, we thought about potentially expanding the business and included Nashville, TN after doing a travel job up there and realizing that the demand for photo booths wasn’t truly being met. We ended up doing our first job under the name Nashville Photo Booth Company at the end of 2019.
With the start of 2020, we were on track to surpass 2019 based on the first few months. Unfortunately, our quick success hit a wall, just like everyone else, with Covid-19. We were completely shutdown for about a full year with zero work. Luckily, we were able to weather the storm and get back to work around mid-2021. Things were much better, but between New Orleans Photo Booth and Nashville, we still felt some Covid aftereffects.
To get ourselves back on track each year, we have been striving to find the latest and greatest offerings that we can provide for our clients. This has ranged from the 360 Video Booth that you see on the red carpet from time to time, to even a Mirror Photo booth that is over 6ft tall with fun and engaging animations!
As I mentioned, my favorite part of the industry is being a source of fun and joy for our clients. When people come to the photo booth, you get to see their sillier side as they make crazy faces or come up with wild poses to create their unique photo or video.
We want prospective clients to know that we have everything they could want and need in the photo booth department, and this comes with a great and responsive staff that will have your guests sharing and loving all their photos.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
A well-designed website truly makes a significant difference when aiming to elevate your business. People genuinely judge a book by its cover, and if you fail to capture their interest with your website, they’ll swiftly move on to the next option. You require a website that not only attracts them but also retains their attention and ultimately guides them to the submission page.
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
In our line of work, companies tend to host events a few times a year. The objective is consistently to provide the best service possible and ensure that you alleviate one of their worries. By delivering a quality product, if you can achieve all of this, they will continuously return to a team they can depend on.
