Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Matthew Nagy. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Matthew , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
I feel like I’m always taking a risk with the direction that I take with my music. If you don’t take risks and push boundaries, I feel there isn’t much of a point in making art. I’m definitely not afraid of trying unconventional things when it comes to making music.

Matthew , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’ve always been a creative person. I knew at an early age that it is what I wanted to do. Not much else interested me. I started playing music very young. I was surrounded by music since my dad played in bands. He exposed me to a wide variety of music. I was happy as long as I was being creative in some fashion. Drawing, painting, writing, etc. As a teenager I started playing in bands and writing also. It was in 2017, when I really decided to make the move to Nashville and really get serious about songwriting. Of course, Nashville is full of musicians and songwriters. However, I believe what sets me apart is that I don’t write songs for anyone but myself. At the end of the day, if I feel that it moves me in some way, I’m satisfied! If my music moves other people and helps them through something, it’s a bonus. I believe that if you are making music or art with those intentions people can definitely sense that it’s not just for profit or fame. In turn, it is more likely to move them and have a positive impact.. This is what I’m most proud of as a musician. I’m completely an independent artist. I write, arrange, and record these songs myself.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
If I have a goal or a mission, I would say it would be to make as much music as possible. Just keep writing, recording, and putting out new music. Also I would say to keep it evolving.

Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
I think people who don’t feel the need to create would have a hard time understanding that it’s not an option. If you are creative person it’s something you feel inside of you that you need to do. I find that if I ignore it or say that I’m not going to do it anymore, it just it drives me crazy. If I have a day where I don’t write or even something as little as writing lyrics down, I feel as the whole day is wasted. I believe it’s my way of communicating and expressing myself.
