Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Matthew Middleton. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Matthew, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?

I was taught at a young age the importance of Hard work. I was taught the importance of taking pride in your work. My grandfather, a builder and navy veteran always said,” if you’re going to do something do it right or don’t do it at all.” I have carried that with me my entire life. I Always had a dream of being a successful entrepreneur as he was but due to a 20 year cycle of addiction. Going in and out of treatment centers and correctional facilities that dream was never reached. In 2019 I moved to Louisville Kentucky for treatment and got involved in a 12 step program of recovery and have remained sober since. In 2021 I decided it was time to take my talents and ambitions and go for my dream of becoming a successful entrepreneur. I opened Middleton Home Improvements with that vision and dream in mind., I wanted to be a top tier contractor that took pride in all my work and gave my clients only the best in the residential remodeling industry by using the newest technology and innovation in the industry. I want Middleton Home Improvements to be a pillar of the industry and community and to be a legacy that one day I can hand down to my sons.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

My name is Matthew Middleton. I am 42 years old. After a 20 year bout with addiction I have now been sober for 3.5 years. I strive every day to be of service to others. I started my business with the intention of building something that I could one day pass on to my children. I learned my craft from my grandfather, a builder and navy veteran, my uncle’s who were amazing carpenters and builders, and my dad who was a mason! All of my family instilled work ethic in me from a very young age. They also implanted the importance of taking pride in everything I did. I want that to be what sets me apart from the others In the remodeling and construction industry. I want to constantly learn new products, innovations and techniques to improve at my craft. Middleton Home Improvements is a full service residential remodeling company. We offer everything from handyman services all the way to large home additions and remodels. I am most proud that I was able to fight through adversity and follow my dream of becoming a successful entrepreneur.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?

At 39 years old because of my addiction I was homeless, I had given up everything worth while in my life for drugs and alcohol. I made a choice to finally seek help. I went to detox at The Healing Place in Louisville , and then on to The Beacon House, a sober living facility in Louisville, which turned out to be the best decision of my life. After staying for 6 months, I moved out on my own and have remained sober since.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?

When I first started my business, I immediately built a social media platform. I started Middleton Home Improvements LLC Facebook page . I started out placing ads on Facebook and even on Marketplace. As I started getting a few jobs I would post before and after pictures with descriptions of projects during and after completion. The post would be shared by myself, my family and many of my friends and now 75% of my business leads come from social media platforms.
