We recently connected with Matthew Meide and have shared our conversation below.
Matthew, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Any thoughts about whether to ask friends and family to support your business. What’s okay in your view?
I’m sort of weird about asking friends and family to do business with me. I’m very active on social media and everyone knows I’m a realtor, so I sort of let my friends and family come to me if they’d like to do business with me. I have worked with several friends and family members at this point, and I always put an extra amount of pressure on myself to go above and beyond for them because there’s so much at stake. I have heard of transactions going sideways and ruining friendships, but I’m very good at what I do and don’t allow transactions to get to that point. If I know a friend or family member is thinking or buying or selling a home soon, I may still reach out to see if they have any questions or if I can help in any way, but I don’t like putting pressure on them to work with me. If they choose to, I feel honored and am super excited. If they choose not to, I don’t take it personally and know they had a good reason for working with another agent.

Matthew, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m a happily married husband & father by day, and Realtor by night. I worked in corporate America up until 4 years ago, and finally decided to take a leap of faith and start a career in real estate. I knew I loved helping people but could never find a career path that allowed me to do so. I finally connected with my mentor, Raegan Thorp, and she encouraged me to get my real estate license, and the rest was history. It’s one of the best decisions I’ve ever made and I haven’t looked back since. I get to wake up every day and help buyers and sellers with all of their real estate needs. Some people think Realtors just show homes every day, write offers, and throw signs in the yard, but we do so much more. We really get to know people and their dreams, and help make them a reality. I love working with all kinds of clients, but I especially love working with first time buyers. They depend so much on the knowledge of their Realtor to guide them through the entire home-buying process, and I want them to walk away feeling like I did everything in my power to make their experience amazing. Don’t get me wrong though- I love working with veteran buyers and sellers too. Real estate transactions can get so complex because you have humans and emotions involved, and it’s so important to have an experienced Realtor by your side the entire time who has solutions for everything that can possibly happen. I think my genuine care for others, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills set me apart from a lot of other agents. I pride myself doing what’s right for my clients and always having their best interest at heart. I will tell you if I don’t think a particular house is a good fit for you instead of writing an offer and collecting my commission check. I will be honest with sellers and tell them if they should make improvements to their home before putting it on the market. I’m very honest with people and don’t shy away from telling people the truth. I feel I know the ins and outs of contracts and have an excellent eye for knowing whether homes are built well or not. I always try to anticipate future costs for buyers so they know what to expect down the road after they purchase a home. I believe communicating in whatever ways are most comfortable for my clients- if you prefer text, I’ll text you. If you prefer phone calls, let’s jump on a call and discuss what’s on your mind. If you prefer email, I may be a little slower to respond but I’ll definitely get back to you within a few hours. I’m most proud of how I handled things during the pandemic. I had my license for all of 7 months and the world shut down. I was scared to death that I made the wrong career choice, that I wasn’t going to be able to physically meet with buyers and sellers, and my business was going to fail. I thankfully had the right support system around me, flushed the negative thoughts out of my head, and put my head down to get to work. I’m also very proud of the brand and reputation I have built. All of my clients will tell you that I genuinely cared about them and made the experience fun and educational. I’m also proud of how many clients have turned into friends. I stay in touch with most of my clients and see them from time to time when life permits. I love the fact that I have made so many friends through my career path. Lastly- I want anyone considering using me as their Realtor to know that I take my job very seriously, I invest a lot of time and money into constant training and education, and I will have your back every step of the way.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Anyone who knows me knows that I love to laugh and I have a unique sense of humor. I post whatever is on my mind, even if it’s a little quirky. For example, I’m not afraid to post that I’m watching the Bachelor late night with a glass of wine. I think people appreciate that I’m genuine on my social media and that I’m not putting on a fake front. I also like to post about my personal life so people learn about who I am, and not just that I’m a Realtor. My hope is that people see my true personality on my social media and learn what it would be like to work with me :)
Have you ever had to pivot?
I am like a cat with 9 lives. I have changed career paths many times and finally found one that I love. I started out my career in commercial real estate, then moved to a customer service role for a home builder, then got my life insurance license, then went back to school to get my CPA license and practiced accounting for 6 years, then sold liquor for a alcohol distributor for 5 years, and finally got my real estate license to become a Realtor. I was never afraid of pivoting and changing my career path, in order to find something I loved. I spent almost 2 years getting my CPA license and another 5 years practicing, and threw it all away because I hated the work. It bored me to death and I was in a cubicle all day. I am wired to be out and about, meeting people, kissing babies, having conversations, and helping others. I finally found a role and career path where I finally get to do all of that. I wasn’t afraid to change career paths to find something that brought me joy.
