We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Matthew Iommi a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Matthew, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
Legacy is fundamental to what it is to be human. I believe that without the drive to build a legacy, a person loses meaning in their life. One of my favorite quotes is “The things you do for yourself are gone when you are gone, but the things you do for others remain as your legacy”.
At the core of it all, I strive to have a legacy of positive impact. Positive impact on my family and friends, other individuals, society, and the world overall. On the micro scale this is done by expressing generosity, empathy, and genuineness. It’s important to have and develop this skills because without them one becomes incapable of human-to-human connectivity, a necessity for the legacy I aim to have.
On the macro scale, I aim to achieve a grand positive impact through Fetii, a group rideshare platform that I co-founded with the intent of removing traffic congestion, reducing carbon emissions, and creating great memories for millions of groups. Fetii allows both groups and businesses to hail 15-passenger transit vans on-demand so that groups can ride together, removing the need to split up and utilize multiple vehicles.
Matthew, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
During my senior year at Texas A&M, where I graduated with a Degree in Economics and Minor in Business, I owned and operated a charter transportation service. That’s where I experienced the inefficiencies of the old charter model and the lack of efficient transportation services that were available to groups. My co-founder, Justin Rath, and I set forth to solve this problem and Fetii was born.
Before Fetii groups had two options; reserve a charter vehicle weeks in advance and pay a 5 hour minimum (for a 10 minute ride) OR split up the group and take multiple vehicles. Neither of these are ideal for many reasons. Fetii is a group rideshare platform that allows groups to hail 15-passenger transit vans on-demand so that their groups can ride together!
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Word of mouth has been Fetii’s primary driver (and most efficient) when it comes to customer acquisition. We aim to provide our users with the best possible transportation experience, and that in turn has led to devote and loyal customers who speak highly of our service every chance they get.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
I am currently reading ‘The Hard Thing About Hard Things’ by Ben Horowitz. It’s a great book written by one of Silicon Valley’s most successful entrepreneurs. He highlights difficult experiences he had in his journey and the ways he approached them, invaluable insight for anybody working on a startup!
