We recently connected with Matthew Doyle and have shared our conversation below.
Matthew, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
Coming from a small town in Connecticut, I bet on myself at an early age and took my skills and talents to Florida. Fortunate to have been raised alongside a caring and supportive family, they gave me the confidence to take a risk. That risk was to become a full time model in Miami starting from with only my suitcase, the sum of money of a typical college student, and zero modeling experience. Not knowing a single individual in Miami, I was able to use my communication skills and networking skills to reach new heights. The reason I took this risk was solely due to belief in myself and always having an interest in the industry. Living life with regrets of not trying something, whether it’s a success or failure, is not my style. Believing in my gut feeling is how I take my day to day. It turned out to be one of the best decisions of my life to date. I have now made it to the runways of Saks 5th , Neiman Marcus, and more. Landing campaigns with Original Penguin and multiple Miami based clients. Not only did it result in success in Miami, I was able to spread my wings further to both LA and NYC.
Matthew, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I was introduced into the industry by a college classmate of mine named Alex Jackson. He had saw the potential in me even though I had zero experience. I was approached by him for a test shoot that ended up in a well known magazine. From this opportunity, it really opened my eyes to the artsy side that I was always trying to find a way to express. From this shoot, I was able to show agents nationwide that helped me get to where I am today. Special shoutout to Alex. He saw something in me that I didn’t see . To this day, I still feel like the underdog story coming from a tiny town with no experience. That has built me to who I am today. I remember where I come from and I do to the best of my ability to represent those who got me here.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I have built my audience through consistency. Without consistency, people and fans lose interest and lose it quickly. With competition on every platform, it is key to make sure you keep up with each trend. Along with this, expressing versatility is also a key to success. Nobody wants to see “plain Jane”. They want to see the one who can separate themselves from everyone else. When you have the capability to do this, you will see growth and input from many others. Whether its good or bad input, you learn from it and grow.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Share their work. It’s free to do it. If you love your favorite celebrities outfit, song, etc, you share it amongst your friends and family. From there it becomes a chain effect and it spreads further than one would imagine.
