Matthew, appreciate you joining us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?

I was going through a rough time. I had a hard time finding the positive in things so I started doodling. Over time these doodles became more focused. I wanted to create something that radiated confidence in one’s self. Everything had to point to positivity for me.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

We originally began as a way to channel positive thought during a rough time. We started with just doodles, until, one day our creations became more focused. That’s when Hi fivE was born. Using positivity, we created a streetwear brand that allows you to wear your vibe and show your success. Every great brand needs a motto right? We chose positively successful because success always starts with a positive mindset. We are excited to give you different looks that allow you to showing your positively successful self.

Can you open up about how you funded your business?

When we first started Hi fivE we had no idea how much we would need to get started. We had the design and just needed the funding. My parter and I would save dollars in a drawer and add to it whenever we could. When we were able to save 300.00 we made our first batch of shirts. We then reinvested that back into the business and continued to add when we could. We used social media and word of mouth to promote our brand for free. We used a website host that allowed us to sell online at no cost to start.

The point is that you don’t need to have thousands of dollars to get started. You just need enough to get some product, a belief that you have created something special, a positive mindset for the hard times, and a hustlers mindset.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?

We’re really proud of the reputation we’ve been able to build. We take the time and energy to create great products, and we keep the desire to constantly improve ourselves and our brand. In addition to this, we try our best to remember to show love to others in our market by purchasing a product, social shoutout, or just listening to their stories. By spreading positivity you get positivity back. All this has helped us develop the reputation of the positivity brand.
