We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Matthew Amor. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Matthew below.
Alright, Matthew thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Are you happier as a creative? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job? Can you talk to us about how you think through these emotions?
Lately, I’ve been pondering this question quite a bit. For the past year, I worked as a Background Art Director, and I truly enjoyed that role. However, the animation industry has experienced a decline in new projects overall. Despite this, I remain optimistic about the future of new productions. In addition to my art background, I’ve spent several years in architectural drafting. Recently, I also became a certified home inspector. Given the unpredictable nature of the art industry, I’m now exploring more tangible fields to better support my family.
Matthew , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m a visual artist with a specialization in background art. My family consists of my wife, whom I love dearly, and our two children. We live in Sautee Nachoochee, Georgia, nestled in the woods atop a mountain. My artistic endeavors include illustrations, with a particular passion for Trading Card art. My dream is to build a career directing creative projects and collaborating with teams. Working alongside fellow creatives and inspiring them to achieve greater heights brings me immense joy.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
As an artist, I find the most rewarding aspect to be witnessing new ideas come to life. Seeing my work come together in the animation medium is particularly fulfilling because it serves as a wonderful showcase of collaborative creativity. However, what truly brings me joy is leading teams and helping them reach their highest potential.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My creative journey’s ultimate goal is to establish my own scout camp for teenage boys impacted by divorce. I envision a 50-acre property where I’ll construct multiple cabins alongside my children. This camp aims to assist boys in overcoming the emotional challenges associated with divorced families. My personal experience of healing from my parents’ divorce has fueled my passion for this endeavor. I’m driven by a desire to provide boys with an opportunity to live in the woods, acquire survival and construction skills, and gain a Christian perspective that emphasizes the temporary nature of their pain and gives them hope for the future.
