We were lucky to catch up with Matt White recently and have shared our conversation below.
Matt, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I had been uploading videos for a few years as a hobby, but when covid shut everything down, I suddenly found myself with a lot of extra time on my hands. I started spending a lot more time working on the channel and connecting with the viewers and I realized that making videos and teaching people about cannabis is what I wanted to do all the time. I was down to my last few hundred dollars and I had rent coming up soon, but I decided to take a risk and I spent all of my money on camera and streaming gear. That’s when I knew that it was time to take this seriously and really do everything I could to make it grow and be successful.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I grew up very interested in cannabis, and unlike my friends I was always interested in more than just smoking. I was fascinated with everything related to the plant, and I was always reading about cool new cannabis research and growing techniques in magazines like High Times. I always thought about how cool it would be to work for one of those magazines taking pictures of cool plants and teaching people all kinds of things about cannabis, but I grew up where weed was very illegal – so that was never really more than just a dream. After an injury as an adult, I moved to Colorado and became a medical marijuana patient and began working in the legal cannabis industry. I realized that now I could show people cool things and teach them about cannabis just like those magazines used to do for me. Now I make videos that cover all kinds of facts and science around cannabis, and I try to set apart the facts from the fiction in a fun and interesting way. If you watch my videos you will learn all kinds of new things about cannabis history, cannabis research, cannabis products, and all kinds of random weed facts that will make you a much more informed consumer. I also do weekly live streams with my partner Nastiya where we hang out with the community, discuss current cannabis topics and answer all kinds of questions related to medicinal cannabis and recent cannabis news. It’s a lot of fun and we are always learning new things about our favorite plant.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I love the process of taking an idea that is in my head and making it into something that I can share with people. There is no better feeling than when someone is really appreciative of something you worked hard on and took pride in – especially when it helps them out in some way.
