Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Matt & Ryan . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Matt & Ryan , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
The Finding Fire Company started because of a missing piece within both of our lives. We (Ryan and Matt) both worked at regular 9-5 jobs, and although successful at those roles, we kept having the same conversation “there has to be something more out there”. It dawned on us that although we found success with our own accomplishments, we thrived on teaching and helping others reach their own goals and reach new heights within their personal and professional lives. We talked it over and decided that we wanted to help other people realize that there is in fact “more out there” and that people all around us are going out and pursuing their passions everyday. So, what better way to encourage people to chase their dreams than to start a podcast showcasing high achievers and entrepreneurs.
The Finding Fire Company was born so we could pursue our dream of helping others and allowing ourselves to grow as we hit the ground running having interviewed local and national guests. We realized that this was a worthwhile journey to pursue based on the outpouring of support and positive feedback we received once we started. We have since inspired others to start their own podcasts, jump into new career paths, and have helped many individuals achieve new heights within their professional careers.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
The thing that sets us apart is we both have a traditional background in education, in addition to both of us having an MBA with a focus in Marketing. We both hold regular 9-5 jobs, have a combined 30 plus years of sales and marketing experience, both have families with multiple children under 5, and have continued to grow and refine Finding Fire. Here’s the cool thing about it all, we’ve been in the trenches of the day to day rigamarole, and we’ve also pushed ourselves to invest in our own futures. We like to have fun and have a bonded friendship that allows for a symbiotic relationship. The thing we like the best is that each of us brings something different to the table to craft a well diversified conversational interview with our guests.
Finding Fire all stated with the a commonality of us both not loving what we were doing for our careers and being in what some might call a “rut”. Since we have started pursuing our own passions, we have both experienced a wealth of personal growth that has allowed us to find our authentic selves. The thing that we are most proud of is the positive feedback that we have received from individuals. Specifically, those who have heard us and have given us the credit for them either taking the leap and starting something new or reaching a new milestone.
The Finding Fire Company provides content that impacts individuals in hopes to inspire, educate and motivate them to take action to achieve their personal and professional passions through consultations with high level achievers and entrepreneurs at the top of their game.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
We think any small business owner can relate to our story of being resilient, it comes in many aspects and is a trait that is needed in order to be successful. Both of us have families and have regular 9-5 careers that we are constantly juggling, all while managing/creating/producing a successful podcast. Things can get very busy and very hectic at times and the main thing to remember for us is that we can do this at our own pace. There are times in the middle of winter when its a Tuesday night and -10 outside and the last thing you want to do is get into a car and drive to meet just to edit. There are times when family obligations arise and you have to push plans to a Sunday night and work until midnight. These things happen, resiliency is what keeps us going and focusing on the end goal. We both know what we expect from each other and what we expect Finding Fire to become, so as long as we keep that in mind, it doesn’t matter if it takes us a bit longer to get there. Patience and loving the process is key, remember why you started!
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
We both started Finding Fire to help others succeed and create long lasting partnerships with those that are involved. When we started interviewing individuals for the podcast, we relied heavily on people within the community that already knew us from our professional roles. Leveraging those relationships helped gain the trust of those we felt shared similar values in pursuing their passions and contributing back to the community. During podcast recording sessions, we felt that it was important to make sure that our guests were able to tell their stories on their terms in a conversational setting. All of these things lead to positive feedback within the small business community, the word about Finding Fire started to spread, and the referrals started to pour in.
