We were lucky to catch up with Matt Ritchey recently and have shared our conversation below.
Matt, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you talk to us about your team building process? How did you recruit and train your team and knowing what you know now would you have done anything differently?
I have had a few different team development roles in my career so far, starting with being thrown into my family business at 19 and then being responsible for character development and team growth for a 150+ employee company. I later founded my own business ventures and worked with organizations to assist them in finding the right team members. Currently, my cofounder and I are scaling our B2B community and have brought on 3 new team members in the last 18 months.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I started Inner Circle because our D2C brand needed strategic partners and verified services providers who could deliver on their word. Unfortunately the industry was (and still is) riddled with bad actors and money first operators who couldn’t follow through. We decided to host events and masterminds to attract like minded entrepreneurs; it turns out a lot of people in our industry were experiencing the same problem and wanted a network of trusted resources.
At Inner Circle, we provide a vetted and private community for leaders and advocates in the canna and alternative plant medicine industries.
We are an application only platform focused on providing our members with the following:
-Legally Accepting Payments In Restricted Industries
-Ethically Advertising Without Restriction
-Funding & Strategic Growth Planning
-Fostering Community Amongst Leaders Of High Integrity
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Vulnerability can be a strength.
As a man growing up we were taught to be tough and not show emotion. After experiencing sexual trauma at age 12 I repressed the memory and forgot about it for 15 years. Cannabis opened the door for me to remember and psychedelics assisted me in learning the lessons and integrating the experience so I could be empowered by instead of letting it direct my unconscious mind. More details to share live…
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Looking back it’s always easy to recognize pivot points (I wrote an article about this a decade ago- https://matt-ritchey.com/harnessing-the-power-of-choice/)
This is something I can speak into with great depth as I have had at least 4 major pivots in my life…
