We were lucky to catch up with Matt Logan recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Matt thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea
I always knew I wanted to own my own business. Before I started Made New Home Services, I had been working in the construction industry for several years. Most of my experience had been in residential remodeling but I dabbled in commercial construction for a season as well. When I met my now wife, I always shared the dream with her of being my own boss and owning my own business. I think she was always a bit hesitant due to how difficult and time consuming it is to be a small business owner. While there can be great reward, there is also great challenges.
Before I took my first job as a business owner, I was working for a local remodeling business in Kansas City. They do amazing work and it was a great job but I was burdened with the fact that I needed to be going out on my own. I had been praying about the transition, knowing the God would lead me in the direction he wanted me to go.
About one month later and several prayers, I came home to my wife and told her I needed to quit my job and start my own business. We didn’t have a Quickbooks account, a name for the business, a website…we had absolutely nothing but the desire and calling from God to start. She walked through the pros and cons with me, we started a running list of business names, and drafted a two-weeks notice for my employer.
The next day I quit my job and Made New Home Services was born. We didn’t have a client booked at the time but knew that God would be faithful to see us through. By the end of my two weeks, I took my first job in Topeka. It was quite a drive for me daily but gave us time to get the details worked out of how we were starting a business while still having and income.
Starting your own business can be stressful. There are a lot of unknowns and some large risks as well. As I look back to that time, I am so thankful for the calling and ability to start Made New Home Services. It’s been a pleasure to be able to serve the Kansas City Metro and it’s been a huge blessing to my family.

Matt, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Made New Home Services was built mostly out of a gap we saw in the remodeling industry. Time and time again we would hear family members, friends, and co-workers complain about a contractor not showing up for a scheduled quote, never hearing from them after the quote, or simply never getting a call back to get the initial quote.
After working in remodeling for 6 years, I knew I had the skillset to complete the work but also knew what it would take to be set a part and give my clients and potential clients the respect of open and constant communication. There are times when I certainly miss the mark but my goal is always to be client focused and never move on to my next project without caring about the homeowner as much as the home. There is certainly a stigma about working with contractors and I want to do my best to change that stigma.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
When I first started Made New Home Services, I wasn’t completing the lavish kitchen, basement, and bathroom remodels that I am doing now. I took any job that would come my way. That included garbage disposal repair to simply repainting a bedroom. I knew where I wanted to take my business but knew it would take time. From all of these “handyman” type jobs, I was able to build up a reputation and get referrals. Eventually, the jobs just started to get bigger. I am thankful for where I am today but never want to forget where I started.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Social media can be a great tool but can feel so complicated to those of us who know nothing about social marketing. Thankfully, I’ve turned this portion of the business over to my wife who has a background in digital marketing. Her advice is to not feel defeated. Growing a social audience takes lots of time. There will be times where nearly no one likes your content…keeping posting anyways. Engage with people within your industry on social media and build those online relationships. You’ll get there eventually but it takes time and effort. If you feel that you don’t have that time, we’d always recommend finding someone that can help. Social media is so important for your business!
