We were lucky to catch up with Matt Holmes recently and have shared our conversation below.
Matt, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Do you have any thoughts about how to create a more inclusive workplace?
I opened Hit Entertainment to create more opportunity for the Dallas arts community.. I’ve been working as an actor/artist in Dallas for about 7 years. I’ve met countless talented performers and artists who were looking for more work. I’ve also been fortunate to meet many groups, event planners, and companies hungry for new ideas for entertainment. I just simply connected the dots and saw it as a win win. Bringing talent from Dallas itself, and providing the community with unique entertainment.
Matt, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name’s Matt Holmes. I’m an actor/musician/artist/business owner. I guess that means I like to stay insanely busy. As an actor and artist, I’ve worked through the commercial and modeling world. I’ve had the chance to be on a few television series. I’ve done a handful of theater projects and film series. When I’m not doing any of those listed before, I manage to make crazy voices for Funimation as a resident Voice-Over actor. I also low key serve some wicked breakfast at Yolk on the weekends, because again, love staying busy.
I’m from Iowa originally. Born and raised in Waterloo. I studied at the University of Oklahoma in the theater program. While there, I fell in love with television and film acting. I took a few classes, and my senior year, landed THE lead role in a feature film called Blueberry Hall. That film would later win me the award of best actor at the Madrid International Film Fest. as well as few other awards. After a few theater projects in the Oklahoma area, I moved to Dallas, where my career as an actor started to take off.
I did a few theater projects to hit the ground running. Picked up an agent and started doing more of what I loved. Landed a supporting lead on a television series called Vindication, that has now made it to Amazon Prime and Pureflix. I’ve hit a couple of very successful national commercials with companies such as Bud Light, Dr. Pepper, Pizza Hut and others. I’ve even got myself involved with the Dallas circus, where I have become one of the local Ring Masters.
Dallas became my city. And my idea of giving back, was to provide work for those I knew seeking more opportunities. So I decided to open up Hit Entertainment, a live entertainment company that helped connect event planners and show venues with the talent that is based locally.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I made a point to get to know the community that I wanted to be a part of. The talent in Dallas is vast, and there are many pockets of different groups and organizations. I got involved in as much as I could, allowing me to meet everyone that I know today.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Honestly, good ol’ fashioned word of mouth. I cannot tell you how many job offers I’ve made serving on the weekends. Or a time I met someone at the supermarket looking for their next big event entertainment. Social media goes a long way, but by trying to create my own opportunities in these random every day situations, things seem to work out.
