We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Matt Fritz. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Matt below.
Matt, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
As far back as I can remember having a creative outlet has been a priority for me. Whether experimenting with fine art, sculpting, photography, architecture, graphic design, music – I cannot recall a time in my life when the artistic path was not my focus. A specific memory that sparks a happy thought is being a young child home with chicken pox and my grandmother teaching me the reverse drawing technique using a black canvas and white chalk as a relief form. From that day on I was hooked on the world of vulnerable creative expression.
Matt, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Like most paths I feel my journey contains many victories, failures, plot twists, a heavy dose of deliberate devotion and a dash of luck. I am thrilled that my desire to intentionally create has found a harmonious marriage with my desire to serve. I feel extremely fortunate that my diverse background of cultivated disciplines unmasked my passion for “creating experiences” that bring people together with a mindset of peace and a motive of togetherness.
Few things bring me as much joy as blending movement, mindfulness and lifestyle with my love of music, art and environment, to dazzle all five senses and beyond. Since inception 15 years ago I have grasped that the skill of taking imaginative risks is centered on not taking this existence so seriously and giving myself permission to push the envelope and explore the unknown; which I feel has turned this once stuffy wellness industry on its ear.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
Such an interesting question to contemplate how non-creatives and creatives pass in the night. I personally believe that everyone; whether realized or not; is truly an artistic entity reporting to this existence with the purpose to create. However, for those who have not yet embraced their inner sorcery, many may not be fully attuned to the somewhat painful reality of living in an inventive state. While we all try our best in life to “not give a f*ck what other people think” this can prove to be extremely challenging when your individual artistic expression leaves you undeniably vulnerable and defenseless. Truly exposing your inner most thoughts and ideas with your creative work can invite harsh criticism and quick judgements. Art draws upon the emotional response of the viewer / attendees and it is a universal reminder to practice kindness and appreciation when reacting.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Most rewarding aspect, easy, bringing communities together. My work of blending the physical lifestyle with metaphysical artistry mobilizes absolute diversity in our studio with a common goal of living loud, having fun and celebrating life. Pure, unadulterated joy. That, and of course living intentionally, feeling limitless, and being fearless in discovering the boundaries of self.
