Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Matt Ehnes. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Matt, appreciate you joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
Jared’s Detours
Matt, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m Matt Ehnes, a professional photographer with a passion for capturing and sharing stories through my lens. While my portfolio predominantly features portraiture, my love for photography extends to any opportunity that allows me to connect with and convey someone’s narrative. In essence, I approach my camera with the belief that a picture speaks a thousand words and then some.
In addition to my photography, I’ve embarked on a new venture by launching a travel blog with a friend. This endeavor is quickly gaining momentum and has become a source of immense joy in my life. The blog allows me to explore and document the beauty of various places, further expanding my storytelling capabilities beyond the realm of portraits.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Embarking on the journey of learning a new genre like travel photography to shoot for Jared’s Detours is a testament to my resilience as an artist. Stepping outside the comfort zone of familiar subjects, such as portraiture, demonstrates a commitment to growth and a willingness to embrace fresh challenges.
Navigating this transition involves overcoming hurdles, such as understanding the intricacies of documenting places, adjusting to spontaneous moments, and telling a compelling visual story through the lens. It’s a journey that requires patience and a tenacious spirit to refine skills and adapt to the ever-changing dynamics of each destination. For example, the trip from Phoenix to Antelope Canyon, the experience, and the lighting at Upper/ Lower Antelope Canyon and Antelope X, all challenge these things (Linked below).
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Meeting people from various walks of life, with different experiences, perspectives, and personalities, adds an enriching layer to my artistic journey. It goes beyond the technical aspects of photography; it’s about forging genuine connections. Each encounter becomes a chance to dive into someone’s story.
