We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Matt Buser, Esq. a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Matt, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about the best advice you’ve ever given to a client?
Overall and across all of my clients, I am a very strong advocate for education. I ask all of my clients to try to understand and attempt to learn as much about the business as possible. While the entertainment industry can be fun, it’s still a business and if you want to tap in to your fullest potential, you must know the business!

Matt, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I knew what I wanted to do as my career when I was 15. Now I’m doing it! I am a talent attorney at heart but I also work with companies in the various industries in which I practice. My clientele work in all areas of entertainment, including music, film/tv, fashion, fine art, adult entertainment, influencer services, and the like. I also represent a handful of professional athletes (mainly in regard to off-field, off-court business) and professionals/companies in the cannabis industry. My practice areas include corporate structuring and governance, contracts and intellectual property protection (mainly federal trademark and copyright).

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Referrals and word of mouth! My hope is that, so long as I remain consistent, reasonably reachable, aware of developments in the industry, and hardworking, I will continue to get referred amazing clients. Thanks to all of you who have sent me someone to represent. They are in good hands!!

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I was feeling very down on myself when I first opened my firm because this is such a competitive industry and it was tough to get business. I was impatient and wanted success right then. However, I started exploring positivity and manifestation, despite I didn’t really know that’s what I was doing at the time. Essentially, I just needed to picture the dream coming to life and believe that I was worthy to have the top clients. Once I changed my mindset, the business started pouring in.
