We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Matiyah/ngbgogetta Brown a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Matiyah/ngbgogetta thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
The risk I took was kind of an impulsive move, but at the same time conversation had taken place. It was last year in September when I had seen ombbloodbath post stating, that the artist had features half off. So, I took the opportunity with the little money I had at the time and copped the feature.
Song got sent back to me that night.
A couple of days went by, and I had thought about a video, so I hit her up
Conversation was exchanged and boom it was agreed upon to shoot a video. I was already going to Houston that following week for the (Dallas unplugged) HENNY AND HALOS podcast interview, and live performance.
(Henny and halos is another branch from Dallas popular media outlet REAL LYFE STREET STARZ).
Just so happen my job was off for a week as well. I get to Houston that following week again Conversation exchanged; long story short the video didn’t happen. I don’t know why the video didn’t happen, hopefully 1 day in the future it could.
My lesson learned from this experience is to be less IMPULSIVE and to get more information and certainty before jumping the gun.
I took this risk because for 1 ombbloodbath fire on the mic and 2 opportunities like that don’t come every day. I’m appreciative for ombbloodbath doing the song for sure.
(Song: lately ngbgogetta ft ombbloodbath) Which turned out to do good in streams.
Matiyah/ngbgogetta , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I started music back as a young. Me and my cousin (Jarod rip) we use to record songs through the speaker of the radio onto a cassette tape. Which got lost in the fire a while back. As years progressed, I picked up different ways to record. Nowadays, I use an izotope spire. My 1st show was,, Back in 2015, at sxsw in Austin. 2019 I opened up for kirko bangz in Los Angeles 2021 I opened up for kirko bangz in a town 15min. Away from my home town. 2021 I got interscope records ombbloodbath on my latest song ‘lately’. My music journey has been unbelievable. its been a great investment due to how much ive learned. I’m just, exposure and that one good hit that catches everyone ear. Or that one tshirt design that catches the wave and become popular. As youll all can see I offer entertainment. what sets me apart from everyone else is that, not only do i own all my music i produce some of my songs and i own my own clothing line. and trade mark. not only that everything i do i put positive energy into whatever im working on at the time.
To all my fans and followers stay tuned i have new content on the way. Stay you, stay original, believe in yourself even when no one else does.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist and creative. is the feedback i get once I’ve released content. To wake up to messages and emails
from people stating how good one of my songs are or how they had my song on repeat etc. feels good
it lets me know i can and am making a difference even if it’s a small one
Even waking up to messages about my clothing apparel (long live apparel)
is an honor. when we put content out its not only for us but for others as well
people like to feel and that’s the most rewarding part of it all.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
I have 3 things that significantly impacted my management and entrepreneurial thinking, and philosophy is. One listening to 48 laws of power audio on Spotify. it gave me a way better awareness of myself and how to maneuver in general.
second would be listening to the human behavior audio as well, I taught me how to read people beyond what i naturally know, so I combined that knowledge with what I already knew and was able to make connection i wouldn’t
be bold enough to make if i hadn’t found a way to understand without asking. as well as get into conversations and rooms with important people.
Third would be NICKY AND MOOSE THE PODCAST, AUDIO on Spotify as well. This one made the most impact because
it gives real time story’s and goes into depth and give a lot of free game, that’ll help you succeed if you listen, learn and apply.
