Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Matilda Awaitey Ayerki . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Matilda, thanks for joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?

Growing up, I was surrounded by the hustle and bustle of my parents’ self-started businesses. My dad, a shoemaker, and my mom, a seamstress, worked tirelessly to provide for our family. Witnessing their hard work and dedication instilled in me a passion for entrepreneurship and creativity. I knew from a young age that I wanted to follow in their footsteps and turn my creative skills into a career. My passion for ceramics grew, and I decided to pursue it professionally. After completing university, I am a Teaching Assistant teaching ceramics, but my true passion remained in ceramics. I’m thrilled to say that I’ve started receiving orders for my clay creations, and I’m excited to see where
this journey takes me.

I am a ceramicist and entrepreneur, inspired by my parents’ self-started businesses. I create unique, handmade conceptual pieces, ranging from decorative items to functional pieces, tailored to clients’ tastes. My attention to detail, commitment to quality, and custom approach set me apart. I’m proud of turning my passion into a career and look forward to collaborating with clients to bring their vision to life.

In addition, I sell my dad’s footwear as a part-time job to cover bills during school.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?

My goal is to create ceramic pieces that motivate others to embrace their creativity and resilience. I want to demonstrate that with dedication and hard work, anyone can turn their passion into a career. Through my art, I aim to spread positivity, joy, and a sense of connection to others. I am committed to continually pushing the boundaries of my craft, exploring new techniques and ideas that showcase the beauty and versatility of ceramics.
