We were lucky to catch up with Mathea Webb recently and have shared our conversation below.
Mathea, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.
Both my parents were Artists so I was taught at a very early age that Art has just as much importance as commerce. My father would constantly ask me “Mathea what have you written lately? How’s your writing? “ Now as a manager, imagine how incredibly exciting it is to have them both. It can be done! Ha

Mathea, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I was lucky enough to be raised In the theater, it was either staying with Babysitter or being cast as an urchin Local theater production. I wasn’t very academically, inclined or sports so theatre was the one place I excelled. I stumbled into the on camera world and had an incredibly lucky ride in Hollywood as an actor in the golden age of the 90s where jobs fell off trees. I became manager because the most incredible people around me were not working and we’re not wrapped. It was a better fit than Acting Management was a much better evolution for me and spent a lot less time crying in my car..
I’m currently an independent talent manager with deep roots and a huge amount of time and experience spent in the ever changing Entertainment climate,. I am known for developing talent and resurrecting Talent… I’m also known for making introductions for artists to studios, networks, casting directors,. This has given more voices and screen time to people who would not usually get the opportunity..

Have you ever had to pivot?
I’ve done more pivots than a Ballerina. I used to get all my leads on curly fax paper then by messenger and now everything‘s electronic so I’m literally glued to a computer all day long like a stock trader. It’s such a fast business and if you’re not willing to match the pace, And you’re just not Going to be traditionally successful. I refer to this time in Hollywood is the great extinction because if you cannot get somewhat technically alert, and if you’re not willing to work at this break next speed, we’re all working at as we start to level out in this business. You’re just not gonna make it and it’s really sad. I hate having to tell my clients that they need to prepare a script. Turn it around and often times 24 hours. I know the rule is 48 but let’s be real. It’s the faster the better and it’s the same way with my submissions For all the TV shows films and plays that are being cast . Some of my best clients are the worst at making tapes and some of my younger clients who don’t have the years of training and experience do the best because they know how to make a great Audition tape or a TikTok quickly. it’s just a new set of skills and one is not better than the other. It just is what it is.
If my clients just want to do theatre and just want to do in person meetings and just want to get direct offers, that’s fine. I’m with that pace, but if you want to be working consistently, you are now required to being a one person studio.. Wardrobe, lighting, make up , hair, backdrops, camera and let’s not forget editing! . It’s all on the Artist now.. You basically have to know how to do everything, it’s insane.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I probably do the bare minimum with social media. I use it to promote my clients. My community is incredible about supporting clients and their endeavors there shows so I do it for that reason I’m not very comfortable at a red carpet or showing off anymore that used to be a full-time job for me but now I just like to hold purses Give peptalk help pave the path to success in a really fun and positive way., Art is fun. Art is Joy. Absolutely pain comes with it. Absolutely horrible people come with it but that’s the sad face. There’s a happy smiling face and then there’s the sad face, 🎭
