We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Mathamatics Patterson . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Mathamatics below.
Mathamatics , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your business sooner or later
Starting a business earlier in life is something I wish could have happened. Back when blogging was a thing I wrote for a magazine named 21-7. Our slogan was “for the artist who need three hours of sleep”. Knowing that In business you would loose alot of nights working, I think that attribute plus understanding what it takes to be a professional would help would me really grasp on to what hard work really is and not take any opportunity for granted. What would have changed about my experience if I started sooner, later or at the same time? I’m not sure, now that I look at it, everything is absolutely about networks. Everything.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Peace My name is Mathamatics Patterson, born and raised in brooklyn nyc ( East New York to be exact ). Father, Community activist, visual artist, clothing designer, youth mentor and skater.
After serving in the USN, I wasn’t happy with any of the jobs worked, so pursuing a position working in media in art and entertainment mid 2000’s was something that led me on this path. First, community beatification projects were started which contained neighborhood gardens, included youth outreach networks and murals for businesses who needed touch ups to brighten up the establishments.
During these times, taking a look at what my roots were, I would begin to find out how to connect more and teach others what I knew and worked on creating classes for individuals who wanted to work on their own concepts within the world of art and design.
Describing the work created at times is either one or two things, very fun or very easy to understand. All you need to do is take a step back, breathe and think. From religion to pop culture, politics to iconic moments throughout history these vibrant colored paintings expresses my thoughts, emotions and more importantly provides a blue print for my son to gather his information of our world today.
To answer what separates me from others, at times, I’m not sure. What I do know is my work ethic is one of greatest attributes. I’m willing to do as much work as possible to achieve my goals.
Today, as I sit and jot down something proud of, thinking about the time I was apart of a show at the brooklyn museum all while running a show called paint and poetry would definitely be one of those marks, or maybe celebrating a decade of designing for Hate NYC and re releasing my MathFace apparel could be it then the birth of Melo, my first born son would be the most proud moment as an artist. I never thought I would be able to have children and be a full time artist.
Now, whats something to know more about me? I use these quotes and live by the stance in which they were used when said.
When it’s time to utilize your mind, birds don’t fly they think.
The other is to work hard, because when talent doesn’t…we’ll you know the rest.
God is the greatest.
Thank you.

Conversations about M&A are often focused on multibillion dollar transactions – but M&A can be an important part of a small or medium business owner’s journey. We’d love to hear about your experience with selling businesses.
I sold a logo which became the brand stamp of the business. As I think of the lessons after doing so, make sure you start a paper trail of your work and remember it’s okay to ask for help if something isn’t understood carefully.
We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
Instagram is how I met unrepd. During Covid, my art work was being shared online but I wasn’t asking for money. All I wanted to do was get pampers and items that I could use around the house. The art work was used to barter with others that I knew and it spread to others and boom a message from Sara and Tricia was sent and we are here today.
