We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Mateo Solorzano a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Mateo, appreciate you joining us today. So, let’s start with a hypothetical – what would you change about the educational system?
The education system is a bit out of the place. I would love to give the students a more personalized experience, students would be able to choose more what they do for their curriculum. Also would love to have a more open and collaborative space where projects between students are encouraged to work with people from different disciplines. Also would give up tests. As well as create more opportunities to get involved with any industries, internships and collaborative classes are amazing experiences that all people would benefit from.
Mateo, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
When i was a child I used to watch a bunch of movies with my father, and since then I had the curiosity to know how movies were made. Loved how movies looked as well as how movies created worlds that were impossible to film in real life, so growing up I would do my own sketchs and videos on YouTube, that got me into developing my eye for cinematography and my love for storytelling. Then when It came time to decide what would I want to do in my future Visual effects was always in my radar, so that curiosity from my childhood got me into studying visual effects, where i meet so many great people and allowed me to be working as a compositor artists.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Lately, I have been on a journey to share some stories and thoughts through short reel videos, and it has been nice that some of my friends have told me that they were inspired by something I said or showed in those videos. and it felt so rewarding because inspiring friends to do things they have never done, or to make things they have been pushing it back gives me hope, it is rewarding.
Can you share your view on NFTs? (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
I think NFTs are an amazing way to be an artist in this digital age, I think the future of these things are promising, we just have to give them time to become something that is accessible for everyone and everyone could do it
