We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Matcha. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Matcha below.
Alright, Matcha thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
The most meaningful project I’ve ever worked on is creating Steeped.in.Sound (S.i.S), a queer-centered community and music collective I started in San Diego.
At the time, I was craving a sense of belonging that I couldn’t find in traditional nightlife spaces. I don’t drink alcohol, and many of the social environments in the community revolved around bars or clubs that didn’t fully represent the kind of connection and creativity I was seeking. So, I decided to create something different, a space rooted in music, connection, and self-expression.
What began as a small weekly gathering called Thirs.tea.Thursdays, where friends and local DJs came together in my home to share music, art, and conversation, has now grown into a full-fledged event collective that consistently curates safe, expressive spaces for the community.
Today, S.i.S has become much bigger than I ever imagined. It’s not just about me; it’s about everyone who shows up, finds their people, and feels seen. Watching it evolve from a few friends in my living room to a thriving community collective has been one of the most meaningful and fulfilling experiences of my life. It represents everything I value — creativity, connection, and creating safe spaces where people can feel free to express themselves.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m match.a.mor, a DJ, music producer, community builder, and founder of Steeped.in.Sound (S.i.S).
Everyone has monsters to vanquish, and match.a.mor is our knight in flowing armor. If I can overcome cultural expectations of what makes someone the “right kind” of Latino or the “right kind” of artist, then my followers can too. I chase this mission through the music and spaces I curate. Spaces that celebrate authenticity, fluidity, and joy.
As a DJ, my sound fuses Latin House, Indie Dance, and Baile Funk, energetic, global, and celebratory. My sets are designed to move bodies and uplift spirits, blending rhythm with storytelling. What sets me apart isn’t just the sound, it’s the intention. Every performance, every event, and every beat I share is part of a larger purpose: to create spaces where people feel seen, safe, and free to exist as themselves. S.i.S has become more than a collective; it’s a living, breathing community that reflects the love and authenticity we pour into it.
What I’m most proud of is that this movement now belongs to all of us. It started as my personal search for belonging, and grew into a home for so many others. For me, this work isn’t just about music; it’s about transformation, visibility, and reminding people that they, too, can slay their monsters and dance freely in their truth.

In my view, the best way society can support artists and a thriving creative ecosystem is by showing up. Presence means everything to us. Seeing familiar faces at our shows, week after week, reminds us that what we’re doing matters , that the energy, time, and emotion we pour into our craft are felt and appreciated. Each person who comes back becomes part of the story we’re creating together.
Another powerful way to support artists is through sharing. Share our music, our shows, or our social posts with your friends, your community, your loved ones. Every share extends our reach beyond a single dance floor and connects creative circles that might never have met otherwise. Word of mouth still builds the strongest bridges in our culture.
And finally, dance with us. We make music for movement or connection. There’s no better feeling than looking up from the decks and seeing a crowd fully present, bodies in motion, not just screens in the air. That’s when the magic happens.
Support doesn’t have to be grand gestures or financial contributions; it’s the simple acts of showing up, spreading love, and being part of the moment. That’s what keeps artists like me and communities like ours thriving.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My mission as an artist has always been to create dance floors that encourage self-expression, and the exploration of it. I spent much of my life afraid to express myself in ways my spirit wanted to move. Now, everything I do, every set I play, every event I curate, is about helping others feel safe to explore their own forms of expression.
Through my work as a DJ and with Steeped.in.Sound, I want people to walk into spaces and feel safe enough to explore who they are, to experiment with how they move, dress, and exist in the world. Expression shouldn’t feel scary; it should feel natural.
And at the heart of it all, I believe life is too short not to chase your dreams. Music, community, and creativity are how I remind myself, and others, that our time here is meant to be lived fully, honestly, and with joy. If my journey can inspire even one person to dance a little freer or dream a little louder, then I’m doing exactly what I was meant to do.
