We recently connected with Mason Johnson and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Mason, thanks for joining us today. The first dollar you earn is always exciting – it’s like the start of a new chapter and so we’d love to hear about the first time you sold or generated revenue from your creative work?
Growing up, I was in a band with my brother. We mostly played psychedelic rock, etc. Because we were playing shows, I met a lot of local bands! My first paid gig was for an album cover for a friend. The commission was only $60, but I was so excited. I remember listening to the album over and over again to immerse myself in the music.

Mason, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Sure! My artwork is colorful, strange and exciting. Most of my subjects are creatures, monsters, aliens, and humans. I do also love to work on abstract pieces without any characters. As far as professional work goes, I currently offer various commissions: album artwork, portraits, custom drawings/paintings, mural work & more.
For my clients, I provide one of a kind custom pieces.

We’d love to hear your thoughts on NFTs. (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
Lame, bro. I do see that there is potential value with these for collections, but it is just virtual trading cards. I’ve got some homies that are into crypto, and maybe they are right and I am missing out. Maybe one day I’ll change my mind and accept ETH for my artwork, who knows 🙃🙃

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I really like the process. Some of my favorite projects have been the most challenging. I need to feel overwhelmed, because this is how I grow as an artist.
