We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Marzefekt. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Marzefekt below.
Marzefekt, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s jump right into the heart of things. Outsiders often think businesses or industries have much larger profit margins than they actually do – the reason is that outsiders are often unaware of the biggest challenges to profitability in various industries – what’s the biggest challenge to profitability in your industry?
Making profits as an Independent Artist in the music industry is ever changing. When it comes to streaming services artists only get a fraction of a penny per stream. With this you’re really only able to pull in so much money until you’ve really taken off on the charts. It’s really about making sure you have quality sounding music with a message behind it. Something for the people to relate to, have fun, and help them through times. Being 100% independent means sales from my merch line and tickets sales from shows are the best way to make a profit. With that being said that means you need to have the fans and people that support you that are willing to spend money on your growing business.

Marzefekt, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Marzefekt. I’m an Independent Rap/Hip-Hop Artist. I make music with a wide variety of approaches. I edit and create most of my cover arts, as well as have my own merch line. I first discovered my love for music back when I was 15 years old. Studying the craft and looking up to the artists that inspired me at the time. I then began to write my own lyrics and working on creating songs. Overtime I was able to build my own at home studio set up and start recording and learning the process of mixing and mastering. After a few years I was introduced to a studio where I met a couple guys that now engineer every song for me. Over the years we’ve built a relationship as a team taking the music farther with every session. Telling my story through my music and connecting with people. I set out on a mission a couple years back to build a solid 1,000 person fanbase. We’ve done just that if not more. With no plans of stopping. I hope to continue to grow and reach as many people as possible with my music. Im always ready for opportunity staying on the lookout for creators, influencers, artists, and producers that might want to collaborate. What sets me apart from others is my style, cadence, and story. Able to draw the listener in with the different sounds, lyrics, story and overall approach of the song. I’m not here for trends I’m here to be authentic.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I’ve built my audience on socials overtime with consistency. The biggest thing is making you’re putting your name out there consistently with quality content. I try my best to make sure I find what style of content fits me and my work best. From there it’s a building game. Step by step overtime with consistency you will start to see attraction build. I’ve also reached out to other influencers and editors who I’ve been able to work with in helping promote my new releases. This helps gain more attraction on sales of my music and helps me to get discovered by new people. Collaborating with other business owners, bloggers, radio stations, etc will help with getting the branding and name out there. As long as you’re staying on top of your own content this should help to build to that.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
To never try to be like anyone else and stay true to yourself. I had to learn this after years of trying to force a sound out of me that just wasn’t truly me. Something not authentic to who I am as a person. I chose to revisit my roots where I started. Asked myself why I started? Remembering that the music is for me just as much as it is for the listener. From that point I chose to navigate and unlearn those sides of myself. Re creating what you see today as Marzefekt. Choosing to be true to myself, tell my story in any form but never sway from being true to me.
