We recently connected with Marz Bannos and have shared our conversation below.
Marz, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. I’m sure there have been days where the challenges of being an artist or creative force you to think about what it would be like to just have a regular job. When’s the last time you felt that way? Did you have any insights from the experience?
I’m definitely happier as an artist! I also definitely sometimes think about what it would be like if i decided to prioritize pursuing a career in a more regular job. I just graduated high school, and there are many thoughts coming along with that. It’s ultimately the safer route to pursue a steadier career. I’m actually majoring in psychology (but considering changing it to social work) at the community college I’m committed to.
While a career in that field isn’t necessarily my first priority, it’s my backup plan. I am ultimately very confident in my decision to pursue a career as a creative, as it is what ultimately gives me the most happiness.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m an 18 year old girl living in and from Burbank, California. My dad is an actor, so I’ve grown up observing the performing industry. I always wanted to act, but my parents didn’t want me to be a child actor. I hated that at the time, but now I’m thanktul they made that decision. However, I did grow up in dance. I think that’s how my love for performing truly sprouted. I have training in almost every style in the books. I am not currently working, but I’m actively auditioning for various products. Most recently, I wrapped up my last high school production. It was Hamlet, and I playec Queen Gertrude. My main goal in my art is to be able to provide its consumers with an escape from the real world, whilst giving them something to potentially relate to. That makes me so happy. I think a lot of people go into this business with the intention of becoming famous. That isn’t my intention at all. I’m not opposed to the concept, but I’ve chosen this path because it’s what makes me the happiest. I have a deep passion for it, and it makes me feel so rewarded I make sure to lead with authenticity, and not conform to what others want me to be. That’s just unnecessary.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My main goal in my creative journey is to stay true to myself, while impacting those around me.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist is getting to shape my life. I truly get to see the beauty in everything. I also adore that I get opportunities to make people happy.
