We were lucky to catch up with Maryanne Parker recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Maryanne thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
From the time of King Louis XIV throughout the centuries, etiquette was about exclusion. People had to know and apply “the rules” of etiquette and certain mannerism, sometimes even strange to be considered part of any elite society. Today everyone is welcomed to learn about etiquette and soft skills. Well mannered people are accepted much easier and also knowing certain rules of behavior can open many doors potentially. It is a proven fact.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am the founder and executive director of Manor of Manners, company that specializes in international business, social, luxury and youth etiquette. I have almost a decade of experience in helping the interests of luxury brands, businesses and individuals. I became the Officer of Protocol to the Royal Society of St. George, California Branch recently and I am very grateful for this honor.
I am the author of two very well received books “The Sharpest Soft Skill” and “Posh Overnight”.
I studied etiquette and protocol with etiquette schools in London, Brussels and Washington, DC. And I was mentored by former EU Ambassador to the Holy Sea, Order of Malta and FAO.
I speak often on the topic of etiquette and I spoke at Carnegie Hall, sharing the stage as a keynote speaker with the Lifestyle Queen Martha Stewart, Harvard Club of Boston and NASDAQ in entrepreneurial conferences held at these venues. I have been featured in Forbes, The Oprah Magazine, Martha Stewart, Metropolitan, The New York Times, USA Today, The Epoch Times, The Chicago Tribune, NBC, ABC, FOX, E!Entertainment, The Wendi Williams Show and many more.
It has been a hard, almost a decade work and there is still so much to be accomplished.
I got into the industry because after my many years of corporate experiences. I have worked in the corporate world and every time I have experienced the same: politics, personal disconnect and the business abrasiveness. This lead for me to launch Manor of Manners.
How do we help people? We teach certain technics how get a job, and not just a job but the right job, how to retain it and how to excel. Also, we present confidence building knowledge and being confident these days is crucial, but classy at the same time. It is as we are polishing a diamond.
Also, I started a luxury program, very unique and one of a kind, because some people simply want to be entertained. However we present the program exclusively to luxury brands and their clients. It is much easier to bond with your clients over unique experiences. I presented this program from the Bahamas, and O’Gara Coach Luxury cars to the Royal Society of St. George in front of Oscar winning talents and high profile personalities.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
What I had to unlearn was that the credentials won’t carry us very far. We can have the most impressive credential (as I do) But It is all about our creativity, resilience, perseverance and uniqueness. I use to think that the “right” degree or diploma will open many doors and opportunities, in reality or at least in the reality of most entrepreneurs this is the least important detail. I studied with many different schools just as everyone else in my field, basically we had the same knowledge, which is great if we want to accumulate and collect information. For business purposes we need much, much more. And that is why I created my own certification training where I can adjust the program in a unique way for every individual who attends. Giving out the trivial facts doesn’t help in business.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
In business we are able to build our reputation only if we are in front of the prospective clients and business partners. Another words if people do not know us they won’t hire us. Marketing is very important and because the PR agencies charge a fortune, I had to do my entire marketing campaigns in the beginning. Consistency is key. People will have to see us all the time. If they do not, they will forget about us and our business. We teach our clients how to do that as well for a fraction of what a PR agency might charge them. And they will be able to do it always.
