We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Maryann Rivera-Dannert, MSL. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Maryann below.
Hi Maryann , thanks for joining us today. How do you think about vacations as a business owner? Do you take them and if so, how? If you don’t, why not?
This is such a great and timely question/topic. I definitely take vacations, and I suggest that every entrepreneur does so as well. It doesn’t matter whether you are starting out, or you are established and have a team. There’s a fear, I believe, that if we are not on the go, 24/7/365, people will forget that we exist or go to someone else. I used to feel that way, but then I had an ‘aha moment.’ When we are purposeful on scheduling away time to reflect, plan, slow-down, and rejuvenate, it can have significant positive impact on not just the business, but on our overall wellness. All areas of our lives will benefit.
In our personal lives, we will slow down, relax, and see things from a different perspective. In our business/professional lives, our creative juices will start flowing because we are removed from the hustle and bustle; from the daily “noise.” If you have a team or if your business is for example a coaching business, you are teaching your team members and clients about boundaries and self-care. You’re also reminding your friends and family that they matter when you take time away.
Be mindful, and proactive. Look at your calendar, and plan ahead. You can start small – a weekend away, for example. Put the out of office notification, let your team and/or clients know that you will be away, and when you are returning. Do this once a quarter, and the following year, try going away for a week. It’s also easier to take time away when you have a team, because that is what they are there for. You’ve hired them for a reason – let them do their job and trust that they will be fine.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Maryann’s Journey to Fearless Living with Maryann… Hello, I’m Maryann, an author, podcast host, and certified life coach dedicated to guiding individuals on their journey from uncertainty to a life filled with purpose and passion. My story is one of resilience and triumph, shaped by personal challenges that could have kept me stuck but instead propelled me forward.
I found my way into this empowering industry through the guidance of a business coach who helped me gain clarity. This pivotal moment led me to discover my true calling – assisting others in overcoming obstacles and finding their path to a more fulfilling life.
As the author of 13 published anthologies, and two journals, my written works serve as a source of inspiration and practical guidance. Each piece reflects my commitment to helping others navigate their own challenges. Additionally, my podcast, “Fearless Fridays with Maryann,” provides a platform for meaningful conversations about life, motivation, hope, and personal growth.
One of the key services I offer as a certified life coach is a unique three-step method: Release, Realign, Restart. I work closely with my clients to move them from stagnation and uncertainties to a place where they can identify their purpose and desires. What sets me apart is not just my professional expertise but my personal journey as well.
I’ve faced and conquered significant challenges, including surviving sexual abuse, being a high school drop-out, overcoming the hardships of teenage motherhood, and enduring domestic violence. These occurrences have shaped my understanding and empathy, allowing me to connect with my clients on a deeper level. I’m not just talking the talk; I’ve walked the walk, and I’m here to help others do the same.
What I’m most proud of is the woman I’ve become and the positive impact I’ve had on numerous individuals over the years. Whether it’s through direct coaching, the insights shared in my podcast, or the wisdom found in my books, I strive to empower others to believe that everything they hope for in their lives is not only achievable but within reach.
So, to all potential clients, followers, and supporters, I want you to know that your dreams are possible, and I’m here to support you on your journey to fearless living.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
As I reflect on my life, there was a pivotal moment that defined my transition from being a photographer to embarking on the path of a certified life coach, author, and podcaster. I was drained, as I was working 6-7 days a week, between my fulltime 9-5 job, and being a photographer. This transformation was not only about pivoting, but also about rediscovering my purpose and creating a life that aligned with my true passions.
The turning point came when I found myself working three days in a row, on a wedding. Mind you, I was only hired for two – five-hour sessions. Don’t get me wrong, I was compensated, and very well I might add, but I was exhausted and my love for photography was slowly fading away. I no longer found enjoyment, and after several sessions with my business coach, I decided to cut ties: I sold all my equipment and leaped into something new. It was an overwhelming decision to make the shift but stepping away from the comfort of the familiar and jumping into the unknown was necessary for my personal and professional growth.
Here are three tips based on my experience for anyone considering a significant change in their life:
1. **Listen to Your Inner Voice: ** Pay attention to the subtle nudges from within that guide you towards your true calling. Your intuition knows what resonates with your authentic self. Trusting this inner voice can lead you to a more fulfilling and purpose-driven life.
2. **Embrace Change as a Catalyst for Growth: ** Change is inevitable and embracing it rather than resisting it can be a powerful mechanism for personal and professional growth. Understand that pivoting is not a sign of failure but an opportunity for a new beginning. Approach it with an open mind and a willingness to learn.
3. **Build a Support System: ** Surround yourself with a supportive network of friends, mentors, and like-minded individuals who understand and encourage your journey. Having a strong support system can provide guidance, motivation, and reassurance during challenging times. Share your aspirations with those who uplift and inspire you.
Today, as a certified life coach, author, and podcaster, I find tremendous joy in helping others navigate their own paths of transformation. Every day I am grateful that I was not afraid to change and step into something new and amazing, because it has not only enriched my life but has also allowed me to impact the lives of others in ways I could have never imagined. Remember, life is a series of chapters, and each transition is an opportunity to create a narrative that resonates with your truest self.

We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
I wouldn’t necessarily call what I do a “side hustle.” I am a business owner, and while my business hasn’t evolved into my primary career, it has been a valuable and fulfilling aspect of my professional journey. My dedication to human resources remains unwavering, and I find great satisfaction in contributing to that field. The coaching endeavor, although not fulltime, currently, it is a source of passion and personal growth. I approach my future with an open mind, recognizing that the path ahead may hold unexpected opportunities and challenges, guided by a sense of faith and purpose.
