We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Maryam Taba. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Maryam below.
Alright, Maryam thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
My parents have truly been my biggest supporters, and their approach to parenting taught me invaluable lessons. They
never sugar-coated the challenges I’d face on this path, and while they made me aware of the obstacles, they never
stopped motivating me to pursue my goals. Their support went beyond just encouragement; they showed me ‘how to
fish’ rather than just handing me the fish. That’s been the most empowering gift. Learning to navigate, problem-solve,
and be resourceful on my own has been crucial to building my business and developing the resilience needed in both
art curation and design. But perhaps the most reassuring part is knowing that no matter where this journey takes me,
they’ll always be there to take my hand and lift me if I fall. That kind of foundation is something I’m endlessly grateful for.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Design is never just about what something looks like—it’s about how it works, how it feels, and the stories it tells. Great design begins with understanding; it’s the result of deep conversations and thoughtful ideation, where every decision, from the placement of furniture to the choice of artwork, reflects the identity and spirit of those who inhabit the space. Art, in particular, is a powerful communicator, capable of setting the energy of a room, sparking reflection, and creating a sense of connection that words alone can’t capture. Like an architect shaping a building or a designer curating a space, I believe that design is about more than just aesthetics—it’s about creating an environment that feels intentional, inspiring, and true to the people it’s for. It’s about building a narrative that resonates, one that emerges from understanding, collaboration, and a shared vision.
Art and design, to me, are one of the most essential aspects of life— they have the power to set the energy in a space and reveal someone’s character in a way words cannot. Every choice in design, every curated artwork, speaks volumes about the person behind the space. Art within a space goes even further; it speaks louder than anything else, giving people a purpose to engage, reflect, and feel connected.
At Maryam Taba Studios, we focus on creating spaces that are not only visually compelling but also deeply personal. Through art advisory, custom furniture, and comprehensive design services, I help clients shape environments that feel authentic to who they are. Each project is about more than just beauty; it’s about curating a narrative that aligns with the client’s unique identity and resonates on an emotional level.
Ultimately, I am most proud of the trust my clients place in me to bring their visions to life. For me, art and design are about crafting a space that goes beyond aesthetics, creating an environment that feels intentional, inspiring, and, above all, uniquely theirs.
—–
My journey into the world of art curation and interior design began early. Growing up, I was often immersed in creative spaces and took part in art and painting classes myself, which instilled a love for art from a young age. But as I grew older, I discovered something deeper about my own character. Being more introverted, I found that I genuinely enjoyed acting as a bridge between those who appreciate art and the creative minds behind it. This role allowed me to express my own talents in interior design and styling while facilitating meaningful connections around art.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
“Creativity takes courage,” and the journey to bring my first gallery exhibition, Contours of Existence: Exploring the Human Experience, to life has truly tested my resilience. Transitioning from interior design to art curation was a leap of faith, but opening a gallery introduced an entirely new set of challenges—each one pushing me to grow and adapt in ways I hadn’t imagined. As I prepared for the exhibition, I embraced each hurdle as an opportunity to learn, echoing the sentiment that “I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.” From finding the right location to transforming it into a space that would honor the art, I encountered countless unknowns. Securing permits, coordinating with experts, and ensuring the space was gallery-ready tested my resolve. But through it all, I remembered the words of Maya Angelou: “You may not control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them.” With each challenge, I pushed forward, learning new skills and refining my vision. Now, as the opening approaches, I feel a deep sense of accomplishment—not only because of the art but because of the resilience, passion, and determination that shaped this journey.
In preparing for this exhibition, I had to quickly immerse myself in every aspect of gallery management, from installation techniques to creating a meaningful experience for each visitor. This exhibition represents not just a display of art, but a reflection of my personal journey and the resilience required to bring this vision to life. I would love to invite you to experience Contours of Existence: Exploring the Human Experience firsthand. Join us for the opening reception on November 23, 2024, or visit us at any point during the exhibition, which runs through December 22, 2024. For more details or to RSVP, please reach out to [email protected]. It would be wonderful to share this journey with you!

Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
Customer satisfaction and brand loyalty are built on a foundation of trust, exceptional service, and a deep understanding of what truly matters to the client. In my work as both an art curator and interior designer, I focus on creating spaces that resonate with my clients’ personal identities, making them feel seen, valued, and truly understood. This approach creates an emotional connection that goes beyond aesthetics—when clients feel like their needs have been listened to and met with intention, it’s not just about a finished space; it’s about a transformative experience.
Clients love working with me because I make the design process collaborative, fluid, and deeply personal. As Henri Matisse once said, “Creativity takes courage.” I take pride in guiding my clients through this courageous process, helping them express their personality, values, and aspirations through their spaces. Whether I’m curating a gallery exhibition or designing a home, I prioritize listening carefully to my clients’ needs, understanding their vision, and working together to bring that vision to life. This kind of personalized service leads to lasting relationships and builds trust that extends far beyond the initial project.
By continuously staying engaged and being genuinely invested in my clients’ satisfaction, I foster a sense of loyalty. They feel confident knowing that I am committed to their vision and that I will go the extra mile to ensure their space is a true reflection of who they are. As Seth Godin wisely said, “People do not buy goods and services. They buy relations, stories, and magic.” I believe this perfectly encapsulates the essence of my approach: It’s about creating a meaningful relationship with my clients, telling a unique story through design, and bringing a touch of magic into every space.
I’ve found that when clients see the care and dedication I put into each project, they not only return for future projects but also become advocates, sharing their positive experiences with others. Word-of-mouth referrals have become an organic result of the trust I’ve earned. My work goes beyond delivering beautiful spaces; it’s about creating environments that evoke emotions, spark connections, and create lasting memories.
At the heart of everything I do is the belief that great design isn’t just about transforming spaces—it’s about transforming lives. That’s why my clients trust me to create not just functional spaces, but spaces that feel deeply personal and aligned with their unique identity.
