Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Maryam Dimson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Maryam, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
At Libertad Co NYC, our mission goes beyond fashion—it’s about empowering individuals to embrace their true selves and fostering a sense of freedom and connection within our community. Growing up, I struggled with self-acceptance, especially around my body image, and I know firsthand how difficult it can be to feel confident in a world that often pushes unrealistic standards. This journey toward self-acceptance was a driving force behind my desire to create a brand where everyone feels liberated and celebrated for their unique beauty.
This mission is meaningful because I’ve seen the transformative power that confidence can have on someone’s life. Through Libertad Co NYC, I want to help people find that confidence, no matter who they are or what their journey looks like. I believe that true style is about feeling free to express yourself without judgment, and I want to create a community where people can find that freedom and support each other in the process.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a New York City native with a background in hospitality, event production, and a love for self-expression. My journey to founding Libertad Co NYC was inspired by both personal experiences and professional insights. From an early age, I struggled with self-acceptance, especially around my body image, and I know how isolating it can feel to not fit into society’s narrow definitions of beauty. I wanted to create a space where people, regardless of background or body type, feel celebrated, liberated, and confident.
After earning an MS in Global Hospitality Management from NYU and working in roles where I learned about operations, event production, and customer experience, I realized I wanted to do something different, something meaningful that would leave a lasting impact. Libertad Co NYC was born from this vision of community, empowerment, and individuality.
Libertad Co NYC offers jewelry and accessories designed to inspire confidence, calm, and self-love. We’re known for unique pieces like our Butterfly Zen Ring, a fidget ring that serves as both a stylish accessory and a tool for mindfulness, and our Whirling Petals Necklace, which provides gentle anxiety relief with a spinning charm. These products are more than jewelry—they’re wearable symbols of resilience, growth, and inner peace.
Our pieces appeal to anyone who wants more than just fashion. They are created with purpose, encouraging people to take a moment for themselves and focus on what makes them feel good. What sets us apart is our commitment to inclusivity and community. Libertad Co NYC isn’t just about selling jewelry; it’s about building a space where people can embrace their true selves and connect with others on that same journey.
I’m incredibly proud of the connections we’ve created and the stories our customers share about how our pieces resonate with them. To me, the success of Libertad Co NYC isn’t just about sales but about fostering confidence, helping people find moments of calm, and creating a brand that’s genuinely uplifting. When people wear our products, I want them to feel like they’re part of something meaningful—a community that supports and celebrates them.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Starting Libertad Co NYC was a challenging journey, and it’s one I’m still navigating today. When I first launched the brand, I had a clear vision of what I wanted to create, but the financial reality was something I hadn’t fully anticipated. Bringing my designs to life, building an inventory, and covering production costs meant dipping into my own savings and taking out loans. I went into debt multiple times just to keep the business afloat, and there were many months where I worried if I’d be able to make it through.
I faced skepticism from people around me, some of whom didn’t think I could turn this dream into a sustainable business. I knew that the industry was competitive, and as a small, mission-driven brand, I didn’t have the same resources as bigger companies. But despite all this, I believed deeply in the purpose behind Libertad Co NYC and was determined to keep going.
There were times when I had to take on side jobs just to cover costs and stay afloat. I learned how to be resourceful, finding ways to stretch every dollar, and spent countless hours researching how to market on a shoestring budget. When setbacks happened—like a production delay or an unexpected expense—I used them as motivation to work harder and smarter. I kept reminding myself that every challenge was part of the journey.
Looking back, I’m proud of how far the brand has come, even though I still have a long way to go. I’m grateful for the support of our community and customers who believe in the mission just as much as I do. There are still hurdles to overcome, but I’m more determined than ever to keep pushing forward. Every struggle has only strengthened my commitment to creating something meaningful with Libertad Co NYC, and I know that resilience is what will keep us growing and thriving in the years to come.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Building an audience on social media for Libertad Co NYC has been a gradual, learning process. In the beginning, I didn’t have a big budget for ads or a large network to leverage, so I focused on creating genuine connections, sharing my story, and building community, one person at a time.
I started by being as authentic as possible, sharing not only the beautiful aspects of the brand but also the challenges, like my struggles with self-acceptance and the journey to create pieces that truly mean something. I wanted people to see the heart behind the brand and connect with its mission on a personal level. This transparency resonated with a lot of people, and they started engaging and sharing their own stories in response.
I also invested time in understanding what my audience valued. By engaging directly—responding to comments, asking for feedback, and even DMing loyal followers to thank them for their support—I learned what content resonated most. This insight helped me create posts that didn’t just showcase products but provided value, like styling tips, mindfulness practices, and reminders of self-love. This approach built trust and made followers feel like they were part of something meaningful.
For anyone just starting out, my advice is to focus on authenticity and consistency. Be clear about what makes your brand unique and why it matters, and don’t be afraid to share the ups and downs. Engage actively with your audience—social media is a two-way street, and the more you connect, the stronger your community will grow. Also, try to stay consistent with your posting schedule and aesthetic, so followers know what to expect and look forward to your content.
Remember that growth takes time. It can be tempting to chase quick results, but building a loyal audience comes from building relationships, one follower at a time. Stick with it, learn as you go, and keep your purpose at the center of everything you post.
