Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Mary Scott. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Mary, appreciate you joining us today. It’s easy to look at a business or industry as an outsider and assume it’s super profitable – but we’ve seen over and over again in our conversation with folks that most industries have factors that make profitability a challenge. What’s biggest challenge to profitability in your industry?
I’d have to say that, with being a self published author it’s very hard to be everything else. There’s so much that goes into this business. You have to promote your own work as well as yourself. There’s a lot to do in order to get your work known. It’s costly and when you’re struggling with your day job it’s even harder to pay for your own promotional work. This has been a challenge for me. Making sure that I can afford an editor and pay for a marketing package for my book. The constant promoting and sharing on social media accounts. All of this can seem like a full time job just to get your book known. In hopes of making a few sales from your book.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m an author and creative writer for over 30 years now. I’ve got four books published on Amazon and Barnes and Noble. I have an audio series that is available on Pocket FM, called Raven Falls: Vampire Chronicles. Which is available in print now. I’m also working on writing another audio series along with another book. To be honest I’m actually working on several projects. I’d love to find a literary agent to sign with. In hopes of finding a traditional publishing company.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I would have to say that my ultimate goal is to keep writing stories and have them on the book shelves in bookstores.
It would also be a dream goal to see one of works on the screen.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Just the love of writing and sharing these stories I’ve created. I love knowing that people love my work and look forward to seeing what’s coming next.
