We were lucky to catch up with Mary Julie (Mimi) Mikhael recently and have shared our conversation below.
Mary Julie (Mimi), looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you share an important lesson you learned in a prior job that’s helped you in your career afterwards?
The Most important lesson I have learned at my previous job was NEVER TAKE ANYTHING FOR GRANTED. My previous job I was working for the state of California , I was filing unemployment insurance claims for the one’s that lost their job during covid-19. I kid you not every call I had to take, I would say I am BLESSED, 1 Million times. I TALKED TO PEOPLE, THAT WERE LOSING THERE HOMES DUE TO NOT PAYING RENT, their water or electricity was being cut off. And people became homeless because they lost there job and everything they owned.
The lesson I learned was always saving money and being grateful to have a roof on my head. When covid hit overnight, people lost their job instantly and I was one of them. While I was working, I went above and beyond each customer I talked to, to help them out with their financial situation.
Mary Julie (Mimi), love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
For those who don’t know me, I have a Bachelor’s degree In Business/ Marketing degree with a concentration in Market Research. During my time in school, I was doing a lot of research on products and I was also doing research in NASA. I know that’s a shock when I tell everyone this. I started to figure out, studying and having a job in Research wasn’t my thing, it was very intense research into Qualitative, Quantitive and primary and using Data systems to measure the company’s market. So of course, during this time I had an instagram, and it was getting Popular with influencers promoting products and it was the start of the era of girls started doing there makeup in front of the camera, and fashion trends to change as well. I loved social media, so what I did was, I started to promote myself. Brands reached out to me in early 2016-2017 to promote products on my instagram page. I loved the aspect of delivering my honest reviews on Products. I post more about beauty & wellness products and my lifestyle. I started to post more about Makeup content because makeup gives me confidence and boost of energy. I also post so much MEMES non stop on my stories. I love having a good time and having fun. Life is too short not too have a good laugh, right?
I am so proud of where I came from. I was struggling as soon as I graduated from my school, my life was in a rollercoaster. I had no idea where to start.
I want my followers to know in the beginning it will not be easy but you will see results! I want my followers to know when I am promoting products it’s literally from my heart and also being creative when making a reel <3, whether this product was good or bad. I love being a Micro influencer and that’s how you build your community of followers.
How did you build your audience on social media?
So at first my audience was family and friends. So the way I built my audience was I found micro influencers with the same niche as me and I started to follow them, and I would send a small DM, anything that makes there day or even writing a small comment on one of there posts. I have learned, no one is perfect, so when you send that nice message, it can make someones day 1,000% better. Someone out there is going through something, so always be nice to that person.
The funny thing I would do is SPAM and like all their pictures on there Instagram page ;)
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Communicating and interacting with so many people on the internet. Also sharing my lifestyle around the world, showing being a creative still exist.
