We recently connected with Marvisha Singletary and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Marvisha thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
Heyyyyy!!! Im so excited to be here today, I decided to become a school owner because I wanted to teach, I wanted to give back something non traditional back to my community. I wanted to create something of such value that people can create a new lifestyle for themselves.
I came up with the idea of creating a nontraditional school because I saw a need to help others become more financially stable and still maintain control of their time. I first began mystery shopping in 2014, after I first moved to South Carolina and my mom spoke to me about additional ways to make money. This was just really fun to do because I never knew this sort of thing existed until she told me, I enjoyed getting paid to do things I would do anyway. I would go out to eat, visit the movies, visit apartments, and shop for jewelry.
In 2018, I began trading in the foreign exchange market, and this really catapulted my love for helping others create more income. I became very proficient at this skillset and since then I have trained over 200 people, I have helped people not only make more money, but learn discipline over their finances, and discover their higher self. It was my love for forex the reason why i decided to create a non-traditional school. I began opening up to students about the different skillsets I had to include; couponing, stocks, forex, binary, and smart marketing.
I love teaching! I love helping others! I love helping others reach their full potential! My school helps others turn various hustles into skillsets! It helps people create a new lifestyle for themselves! When I first trained my first few students and I saw the growth and development in them,I knew I had something powerful to offer the world. I got my degree in black studies and criminal justice so that I could further assist others and help them pursue a new career as well.
Marvisha, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My Name is Marvisha Singletary, Im 31 years old, and I have one daughter. I created Wealthy Hustler Academy because I saw a need for it in my community. I saw that there were many people struggling form day to day trying to make ends meat and spend time with their kids. I knew that when I became a mom, I didn’t want anything to raise her but me and I wanted to be available as much as possible. I wanted to help others do the same as I did when I became a mom.
I lived in Korea for two years, when I was stationed in Daegu, South Korea and I physically participated in the foreign exchange market, so when i ran across someone on facebook speaking of the forex market it was a no brainer. I made my first $20 off one trade while lying in bed half sleep, I used a 10 cent lot size and made $20. It may not seem much to you but at the time I was looking for a way to supplement income, and $20 would fill my gas tank up. Most importantly I did this from laying in bed, this was mind-blowing for me.
While mastering this skillset on my own journey I learned a lot about myself, I saw where I lacked discipline and how are emotions are affected to how we deal with money.
I am very hands on with my teaching style, I break each class down to a kindergarten level for each student to learn. We use colors in various ways, we take field trips to different countries, we do small group learning and one on one sessions when necessary for each student.
I don’t brag about being a millionaire or anything like that mainly because Im not bodacious but I teach my students that being a millionaire starts with your mindset first. I teach them that wealth isn’t defined by the amount of money you have.
There are so many things I am proud of when it comes to my school, I have had three of my students pass funded account challenges and take home a minimum 10k, I have helped a quite a few moms quote their jobs and supplement income.
This year we were able to get a physical location in Columbia, SC and I have added more classes, gotten our program accredited by the SC state board!! I am completely in love with the Wealthy Hustler Academy and the future of the school.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
When I first became a trader I lost a lot, sometimes months at a time, but I chose to stay the course because I know you cant lose forever. I had to learn that on my journey to success, I needed to learn how to lose. As a matter of fact, my dad used to say, ” you gotta learn how to take a loss in order to be a boss”. Nonetheless to say, its because of this journey it has taught me that I had to learn to embrace “losses” and that losses are really lessons.
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
My advice I would give for managing a team is to care about them, I spend lots of time getting to know my students, their families, and what they are interested in. Their morale is the most important thing, we take field trips, play games, learn, and build with each other.
