We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Marvin Rodriguez a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Marvin , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What was the most important lesson/experience you had in a job that has helped you as a business owner?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is just be yourself. I can’t stress that part enough. There was a time where I felt this odd pressure to act 100% all business and not be able to express who I really was. I was caught up trying to impress the wrong people. Back then I even knew that those people were not supporters of my passion. Since it did not have a designer label next to it , they showed no interest. That’s not who I was or am. Style is expressing who you are , and people don’t like it then they aren’t the right crowd for you.
Marvin , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a fashion stylist from Houston. My type of fashion/style is definitely more eccentric than what most people are use to. I enjoy mixing patterns , textures , and fabrics. Most of my vision is blurry at the beginning but being on a set brings out all those creative juices. I also do a lot of closet clean up/revamping everyday wardrobe. During the start of the pandemic it definitely made me hit a curb , but luckily this year I have the drive to get my mind back into it. Kinda reintroduced myself to the scene.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I know it’s hard for some people to keep up with social media. But it does play a huge part nowadays with networking and business opportunities. But honestly finding the happy medium of keeping your normal life and your professional life balance is great. The big audience now wants to see more real life things , rather than some pictures perfect blogger.
Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
My biggest suggestion with this is make them more of a friend then a business partner. The more you can have just a normal conversation the more points you get. I’ve learned that clients want to know your paying attention, that you remember details, it’s the small things that can really impact who is going to return or who’s going to find another business.
