We recently connected with Marvin “DJ MARV GO HARD” Ekpenyong and have shared our conversation below.
Marvin “DJ MARV GO HARD” , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you walk us through some of the key steps that allowed you move beyond an idea and actually launch?
Well the start of my actual business came about when me and a long time friend decided to come together and create an idea for a company that would help artists, models, dancers and other creatives sharpen their talents as a team. We got a job at McDonald’s together and would talk about what we wanted to do while we were there working. So the first thing we decided to do was save up and start going half on DJ equipment and photography equipment. At the time, I was the DJ and he was the videographer/photographer. Once we got what we needed we started throwing parties and also got hired to work other people’s events. During all of this we also started recruiting artists, models and other creatives to be a part of our team. We then started having meetings every Sunday to talk about what we wanted to do and to practice our skills. Every Sunday everyone also put money in a jar to save up for whatever might be needed to make things happen. It didn’t matter the amount, everyone just had to put in something. And this was the very beginning of Most Official Entertainment.

Marvin “DJ MARV GO HARD” , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I first got into the entertainment industry as a child. My mom was always doing something and I was always with her so naturally I was in the business too. We even started our own company back then called the African Culture Company, where we would perform at different events and teach others how to do certain dances, play instruments and do arts and crafts. I did everything from tap dancing, acting and playing the drums.
Fast forward to high school I got into DJing through a program called Capacity. A man by the name of BHB (Brothers Helping Brothers) was the instructor. He also taught a hip hop dance class right after the DJ class. I was so good at DJing, he had me DJ while he taught the dance class.
Fast forward to today, my business partner that I started my company with now lives in Atlanta, GA while I live in Columbus, OH so I have now switched lanes into film and photography. We still work with various artists, models and other creatives. I also have gained new connections as far as film and photography. For example my partner HaleOfAhShot. He is a new very talented videographer and photographer that I work very well with. We have shot various music videos, a series and more together.
As far as clients what sets me/us apart is bringing their ideas to life and adding to them, making them even better than imagined. I’m most proud of how happy the clients are when they get the final product. That’s why I do it. Yes of course the money is good but the satisfaction of the customer being happy is what it’s all about.
We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
So I actually met my partner in first grade. So we’ve know each other for over 32 years!

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
All I did was post our work and the work we did with our artists. It spoke for itself. Everyone would always come to see what we were doing next. I used Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube in the beginning to gain a core audience. Later on I also incorporated some reaction videos to widen the audience even more.
