We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Marvetta Tarpley a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Marvetta, appreciate you joining us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
We came up with the idea to start Ivy Wedding’s & Events LLC in May of 2017 after I moved to Charlotte from Atlanta. We were both planning weddings and events separately and sometimes helping each other from afar. When I moved we decided to merge our separate businesses into one to create a duo team.

Marvetta, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Marvetta Tarpley but friends and family call me Vetta. Originally from a small town in Virginia (Martinsville). Charity and I met in kindergarten and have been bestfriends for 35 years. We both, always loved planning parties and I grew up helping my mom and watching her coordinate weddings. There was something that always fascinated me with watching couples on their wedding day. The process, the love, tears and laughter. Now we get to participate in watching how joyous our clients are on the day of their event.
One of the things we pride ourselves in as a company is being able to guide our clients in the idea process of what they want for their day and trying to minimize their stress levels by assuring them that we have their back.
When our clients hire us, they see that we go above and beyond to help create a special event for their families and them to enjoy.
Does your business have multiple or supplementary revenue streams (like a ATM machine at a barbershop, etc)?
We are currently starting a new business, an online wedding accessory and bridesmaids dress store. When we started thinking of new ways to generate additional income, I started watching different entrepreneurs start drop-shipping stores and along with other businesses and decided that was something we should try. The release of our new online store will be on March 10th.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best source for new clients for us, has been word of mouth and social media. Although we are still learning how to boost our social media, we have generated some business from marketing via Facebook.
