We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Marvelous Marissa. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Marvelous below.
Marvelous , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today One of our favorite things to hear about is stories around the nicest thing someone has done for someone else – what’s the nicest thing someone has ever done for you?
The kindest thing anyone has ever done for me was buying groceries for me when I was in college going through a difficult time financially in school. I attended Clark Atlanta University between the years of 2008-2012. There were many moments I had a difficult time staying financially enrolled in school. There were several nights I went to bed hungry and I went days without having any money. However, God will always come on time, because people would send big care packages to the school for me, my mentors would send me money and my roommates in college would feed me and share their food with me. People and even strangers would buy me groceries and although college was a difficult experience for me financially, God would always come on time for me and it was by his grace and mercy that I graduated with my undergraduate degree in Mass Media Arts with a concentration in Radio/TV/Film.
Thank you God!

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is to be able to live out loud and to do exactly what God has called for me to do. I am a 3X Best Selling Author, Motivational Speaker, Media Personality and I am the former 2024-2025 MS Spokesmodel from the United International Elite Pageant. I am currently a contestant in the US United Pageant. I am so happy and overjoyed to be booked to host events, red carpets, judge and emcee pageants all over and to use my platform to inspire and empower others to do what they love to do. It brings me so much joy to wake up in the morning and to go host an event, do motivational speaking at youth conferences, churches or to do another book signing. Being a creative is something I prayed to God about and now I have the freedom to walk in my divine purpose and to make a difference in someone’s life.
This year, I accomplished my goal of publishing a Children’s Book and I am the proud author of, “I Am Marvelous and So Are You,” This book is for children of all ages to remind them that they are still Marvelous regardless if they get in trouble at home or school. I want our children to know that they are beautiful and gifted and their circumstances does not define them. It’s rewarding when I go to different schools or host my book signings and I see the children smiling and saying out loud that they are “MARVELOUS!” This is rewarding to me and this is why I do what I do. I thank God for allowing me to utilize my gifts to give him the glory and to use my testimony, “From Brokenness to Marvelous, to inspire and empower others that regardless of the broken moments you may face, remember, YOU ARE STILL MARVELOUS!

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
When I was a little girl, I was enrolled in speech class. I had a difficult time articulating my words correctly and my teacher told my mother that I had a speech problem. That left me discouraged at a young age but I always had a dream of being the next “Oprah Winfrey” and to pursue media. Growing up, people made fun of the way I talk or how I annunciated my words and I was brutally teased for talking proper. There were moments I wanted to give up on my dreams due to the rejections I receive from different news stations and the brutal criticism I received from people. Not only was I told that I had a speech problem, but I was told that I needed to lose weight and that I wasn’t attractive to be on television.
There were nights I cried to sleep. I wanted to give up. I once believed the lies of the enemy. After praying to God and learning how to believe in myself again, God opened up so many doors and opportunities for me to do what I love to do. I have hosted live TV shows, hosted a gospel radio show and the “Here’s What’s Happening” segment on 104.7 The Fish and been booked to host so many events, including conferences, award shows, pageants, reunions, red carpets and so much more in Atlanta, GA and my hometown, Wisconsin. Despite what the world told me, I held on to my dreams and now I am an International Award Winning Host/Emcee and a Best Selling Author.
I give God the glory for all that he has done for me. He still had a plan for me regardless of the embarrassing moments and the rejections I had to overcome. It made me stronger and that is what makes me RESILIENT and MARVELOUS! I NEVER GAVE UP! I went from the Speech Class to now an International Award Winning Host and To God be the Glory!
