Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Marva Soogrim. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Marva thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
My mission is bringing “calm to the chaos” of parenting. When you become a parent, there are lots of daily happenings that you are not used to that can throw you in a tailspin because of your inexperience. I understand all that newness because of my experience as a newborn caregiver and so I can bring ease to whatever parents are going through. They will in turn learn how to become more confident.
Having a calling in your life is an amazing feat. In my case, I knew that early on I was called to this work. When I came to Hollywood, I had already worked in New York for over two decades. I had a wealth of knowledge in knowing how to cope with all kinds of family situations, including my own. I was a single mother with four kids. Bringing calm to the chaos was my secret sauce. Being in Hollywood and working with the elites gave me new canvases to paint on. There was lots of travel to new countries with my clients and I was able to visit cities from their vantage point. I got to see in other countries how family members come together to help out. Since new parents in America tend to live far away from their families, I was able to see how grandparents interact with their grandchildren and have lots of fun at the parks, restaurants and by the sea.
Marva, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I grew up in Trinidad and I came from a family of eleven children. I was always comfortable with kids because I helped care for my younger siblings. We lived near the ocean and we would all have fun times on the beach, which gave me my love for the outdoors. One of the reasons I moved from Trinidad to the United States was because I already had three kids and lacked opportunities for work. I thought of my kids and what that would look like for them when they grow up. This helped me with an incentive to push myself for a better life. Once here, I began working with families and I found my calling in baby and mommy care.
With over forty years of experience, I have made myself accessible to the world of new parenting through social media and my website where I am offering my Marvalous Parent Chats for those that are open to chatting with me one on one. I feel privileged to be embracing this chapter of my work journey and excited to learn more as I grow in wisdom. To also add ease to your life with baby, I am developing a few products that are sure to help remove much of the chaos that comes with new parenting.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
My mom and dad were hard working people and they taught us from a young age how to have a strong work ethic so we could grow up to be independent. My mom would wake us up at 4:30am to help push out my dad’s fishing boat to shore. Even though we were little kids and not strong enough to help push the boat, we joined the other adults and followed the motions. Once the boat was on dry sand, we felt that we helped with the work it took. From that age, I knew I could work for what I wanted in life. After the boat docked, we would head to the springs to bring our small buckets of water home. All these chores took place before we went to school. This is when my resilience muscles were being built. I love taking care of mommies and babies and knowing it’s work I was born to do makes my heart smile. My intuition is also a huge guide in my work. I trust it and know how to access it and pay attention to what I should be doing with accuracy.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I thrive on being of great value to my clients. Setting out to do the best work possible takes my mindset to a level that no matter what the day brings, I will have given it my all. I am trustworthy, patient, independent of my own needs and do not bring added stress to my clients’ lives. I am flexible with my hours and travel anywhere work takes them. Once I am on the job, clients need not worry about baby care or my care. I handle it all like a champ. I stay in my own lane and bring Marvalous results.
