We were lucky to catch up with Marty Rush recently and have shared our conversation below.
Marty, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
To me, success is defined by the trust clients place in your vision and creativity. Working with high-profile brands or celebrities is, in itself, a sign of success because it represents a significant level of trust in your ability to deliver results. These projects require more than technical skills—they demand a clear vision, strong leadership, and the ability to collaborate seamlessly with a team.
To achieve success, it’s essential to approach every project with a sense of responsibility, no matter its scale. Each project is an opportunity to leave a lasting impression on the client, ensuring they walk away with a positive experience. This builds trust and generates word-of-mouth recommendations—the kind of PR money can’t buy.
Beyond responsibility, continuous growth is key. This includes not only studying the work of other directors and cinematographers, learning their techniques and visual approaches, but also dedicating time to personal creative projects. These projects allow you to experiment, refine your style, and explore ideas that can later be applied to client work. Developing a strong creative vision and taste is an ongoing process and an integral part of achieving long-term success.
Finally, communication is the glue that holds everything together. I consider this one of my strongest skills—it’s often easy for me to understand a client’s vision and ensure we’re on the same page. Effective communication not only aligns the team but also ensures the client’s expectations are met, which is ultimately what success is all about.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m a Director of Photography and the founder of Marty Rush LLC. My journey began with Marty Rush as my personal pseudonym, but over time, it evolved into something much bigger—a production company that reflects my creative philosophy. I believe that when you nurture and develop a personal brand, it naturally transforms into something greater, and Marty Rush is proof of that.
My work focuses on fashion and lifestyle video production with a distinct visual style. What sets my approach apart is its simplicity, sincerity, and a touch of naivety. I strive to find magic in everyday moments, capturing them with a childlike wonder and honesty. This perspective allows me to create content that feels authentic and connects with audiences on an emotional level.
At Marty Rush LLC, communication is also a key principle. While my visual style defines the creative side of my work, strong communication ensures seamless collaboration with clients and teams. It’s about understanding the client’s vision and aligning every step of the process to achieve a result that exceeds expectations.
I’m proud of how Marty Rush LLC has grown from a personal pseudonym into a company that represents my creative evolution. Every project is an opportunity to explore new ideas, refine my craft, and share my unique perspective with the world.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
My reputation within the market has been built on two core principles: responsibility and understanding. I approach every project with the same level of care, no matter the scale, because I believe that each one reflects not only my skills but also my dedication to achieving the client’s vision. Listening to what clients truly want is at the heart of my process.
I also focus on offering multiple creative solutions for every project, ensuring we can find the best path to achieve their goals. Whether it’s through visual storytelling, stylistic choices, or technical execution, I aim to exceed expectations while maintaining the integrity of the project. I believe this balance of responsibility, creativity, and collaboration has allowed me to build trust and a strong reputation in the industry.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Collaborating with brands like Zhiyun and Prism Lens FX has been a key strategy in growing my audience. These partnerships align with my target demographic and allow for creative freedom, resulting in content that resonates with both audiences. Additionally, working on projects with major brands and celebrities has helped expand my reach when shared by talents with large followings. For example, a promo I shot for Netflix’s Monsters gained nearly 4 million views, and the post mention significantly boosted my audience.
Some of the most rewarding growth, however, comes from creating videos that go viral simply because they’re well-crafted and engaging. For those starting out, my advice is to focus on meaningful content, seek collaborations with aligned brands, and consistently connect with your audience. Authenticity and creativity will always stand out.
