We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Martiniano Martinez. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Martiniano below.
Martiniano, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you recount a story of an unexpected problem you’ve faced along the way?
I had worked for several companies throughout my career, but I had never come across a boss like Roxy. She was the best boss I had ever had.
Roxy was the store manager of a large clothing distributer where I worked as a sales rep. From the moment I started working there, I felt welcomed and appreciated. Roxy took the time to get to know each of her employees and their strengths. She would often praise them for their hard work and dedication, which made them feel valued and motivated.
What impressed me the most was how Roxy led by example. She worked just as hard as her employees and was always willing to lend a helping hand. She would often come to the sales reps to offer feedback on their production and share her vision for the store. Her enthusiasm was contagious, and it pushed me to do my best work.
Roxy also encouraged her employees to pursue their passions and take on new challenges. I had always been interested in learning more about how to manage a team, and Roxy arranged for me to shadow her and learn how it’s done from her point of view. This gesture made me feel appreciated and supported, and I returned to work more inspired and motivated than ever.
Roxy also made sure that my co workers had work-life balance. She would often organize team-building activities like escape rooms, game nights, and volunteering opportunities. This helped to build a sense of community and camaraderie among the team.
Under Roxy’s leadership, the store grew and became extremally successful I felt proud to be a part of it and grateful for the opportunity to work with such a wonderful boss. When he left to pursue another opportunity, I felt sad to leave but knew that I had gained valuable experience and skills that I would carry with him throughout my career.
Martiniano, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Martiniano Martinez III I was born and raised in a small city called Edinburg Texas. Raised by my father Martiniano Martinez Jr and my mother Guadalupe Martinez. I am a proud Latino man who has dreamed big of becoming a successful business owner and world renowned musician. I speak proudly when I say I am from the 956 and want this city and the Rio Grande Valley to be known for our culture, food, and music.
When I was a child I have always been drawn to music and performing. I would sing at the top of my lungs to Pepe Aguilar “Por Mujeres Come Tu” or to Jackie Wilson “Lonely Teardrops”. I didn’t know it at the time but I have had this connection to music that made me express myself in a way I could not explain. As I slowly started getting older my Dad introduced me to the instrument that has no ends and infinite possibility’s “the guitar”. He only taught me 3 chords and after that point I started learning how to play and read music on my own. One Christmas eve back in 2004 here in my home town Edinburg it was a Christmas I would never forget. It was an extremally cold winter and it never got cold here in the Rio Grande Valley. It is an extremally hot and humid area that always has a zero present chance of snow fall but one hundred present chance of you might die of a heat stroke. I remember during that time I would constantly asking my parents that I wanted a drum set and I really want to see snow. That whole night I would tell my dad ” If I get a drum set dad I am going to play like Quest Love from the band “Roots” and I want it to snow dad, I want to see snow” my father told me “Maybe you did get a drum set pops and It will snow son I promise”. We waited till midnight to open gifts and I notice there were no gifts under the tree for me. I was puzzled and confused and wondering why I didn’t get any gifts. My parents called me over and blind folded me. I was being spun around , twisted and turned and was being lead somewhere I wasn’t sure of. Before I knew it the blind fold was lifted from my eyes and there it was, my very first drum set. I looked into my dad’s eyes and wanted to speak but no words would come out, only tears. Tears of pure happiness and joy, I hugged my parents tighter than I ever have before and sat behind that drum kit and start on the journey to become a drummer. From that moment forward drums changed my life, I was consumed in learning drum fills like Travis Barker from Blink-182 or attempting to play like the legendary Buddy Rich. I knew playing drums was my calling and I have been playing them for the last 20 years and have had the opportunity to play in multiple local bands growing up and had some of the best times of my life when I was behind that drum kit.
Where does the lead me to now? Through my many experiences and learning curves I have endured through music I grew an endless passion and fire to create, produce and write music. I started my very own band back in 2018 with my best friend and brother Antonio Mata III. We have gone on this journey together with all our sweat, blood and tears and poured our hearts out to this project and band we call “The Adult-Kids” but it motived me to reach higher and strive for greater heights with not only my band but to many other who didn’t have the same guidance as I did when starting a band from the bottom. That’s when I came up with the idea to create a small business for the band The Adult Kids but also use this business as a gate way to assist other bands come up and build their market. and following.
I will continue to strive for greater heights and hope i can inspire new up and coming business and individuals that anything is possible it just takes a little bit of hard work and dedication.
We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
My cofounder Antonio Mata and I met during our collage years at a local gym near the university we were attending. One day when heading to the gym a mutual friend of ours introduced us to each other and one of the first things I notice were the shoes he was wearing. They were Macbeth foot wear, the lead singing and song writer Tom Delonge from blink-182 was a creator and owner of this company. Now when I say I am a massive fan of blink-182 I mean absolute massive. Travis Barker the drummer from blink is the whole reason I even got into music. He inspired be to become the musician I am today. I even named my first born child after Travis Barker. Blink-182 is a big part of my life and a lot of my success it was because of them.
After I notice his shoes I soon stated ” Dude…… nice shoes I love Macbeths” he looked at me a little puzzled and said ” you know Macbeths”. I said “Hell yeah, I freaking love, Tom & blink-182”. From that moment it started a bond and a brotherhood like no other. Tony and I became the best of friends after that encounter and we started hanging out in each others friend groups and were inseparable from each other. We started to workout, eat, sleep, drink and all of the above just like you would expect brothers to do. We have shared many good and even bad memories with each other but at the end of the day our bond was never broken and we have continued to support each other through the years of this friendship. I don’t think there has not been 1 week where we don’t speak to each other on the phone. Tony is my best friend and I don’t think I would be here in the position I am in today if he wasn’t by my side. I love him like a brother and there is no one else that I can trust more than him.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Mostly I would say social media if you know how to rope in your clients. I tell this to everyone I am involved with, “social media is the best tool you can you in order to grow” It honestly has endless possibility’s and you can start from nothing and actually turn it into something successful if you are dedicated enough.
