We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Martin White a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Martin, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Looking back at the decisions you made early in your career, particularly whether to join a firm or start your own, do you feel you made the right choice for that stage of your career?
I decided to leave the corporate life and run my business full time. A decision that I do not regret at all and actually wish I would have made sooner. To give you a little backstory, I had been working in banking for 17 years prior to running my business full-time. There were a number of events that led to my decision and I truly feel sometimes you need a little push when you become comfortable in your current setting. I survived a life threatening health event where I almost lost my life. Then the pandemic came shortly after. So looking back do I think it was the right choice? I absolutely do since I’ve decided to run my business full-time and rebrand myself. I have impacted more people than I ever did working at the bank. The pandemic reshaped how Americans worked or even changed the workforce forever. At a time where other companies were failing my business was thriving.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
The name of my business is Envision Professionals and we provide an array of different business and financial services. We are the one stop shop for those looking to start their own business. We consult you on your startup business paperwork to helping you acquire funding and beyond. After you see us you will have everything you need to be a legit business. We provide business startup services, credit repair services, grant writing services, resume writing services, etc, etc, etc. I’m particularly proud that within all the services we provide we are impacting lives. People that are looking to start their own business come to us. They leave our office with a better or clearer outlook on how that looks. Their is nothing more exciting then seeing your clients thrilled about coming to see us. It is not just one particular service it is ALL our services. I guess what best describes the company is a business consulting company. But we are not your average consulting firm.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I think already coming from the corporate world helped build my reputation in this business. As a business professional I had already established a following of people that came to me for their financial and business needs. I come from small town USA so the people in my industry often times do not look like me. So I feel it was imperative for me to bring value to my community. Its refreshing for people to see someone that looks like them, talk their lingo, and understand the challenges they face from their view.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Social media isn’t just a digital billboard for my brand. It’s a portal to direct connection with my ideal customers and a pathway to powerful insights. I will say that a good percentage of my business comes from social media. I market the business on all major social media platforms. At first it was a struggle for me because I wanted to keep everything separate. I wanted to keep my personal life and business life separate. But social media changes that because people want to have a personal connection to you. So I started this thing called Tips From A Banker which I would post financial tips that I would give. I had no idea so many people would tune in to my page just for the tips. I would be out and about and someone would come up to me and say I love your tips you provide on social media. Or they would say I can’t wait to read what gems you are going to give us next. Advice I would give for anyone starting to build their social media presence. Setting yourself goals and targets and having a clear idea of the kind of content you want to share is a great place to start. Think about the direction you want your platforms to grow; set yourself key targets and gather content ready for posting. This will give you a purpose and stop you sharing content aimlessly. One thing I will tell you I am consistent and we live in a world where there is always something new, so you have to keep up. There are so many tools that you can use and I learn something new each day when it comes to marketing on social media. So I will definitely propose anyone that is either in business already or just starting out you need to have an online presence to be successful in business.
