Alright, Martin thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
A quick backstory to how Spire Autism. Watching the news after seeing teachers hit and drag special needs students out of the classroom, it really upset me. then after some thought, Spire Autism came to be. I felt it would work because hearing from an autistic person who went through mainstream school along with the difficulties faced, I provide valuable tips and training for teachers as part of what I offer with my company. after my first training session, I received great feedback from instructors and was invited back to train different school districts. I am excited to see what the future holds. I have been invited to speak at different conferences and schools to share insight as well as help the autism community with self acceptance.
Martin, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am an award winning disability advocate, book author, public speaker, and Special Olympic athlete. I provide first responders how to approach us during an emergency, and train teachers out to teach autistic students so we see less in the news about teachers hurting special ed students. One thing I am most proud of is after a recent speech I did for autistic people about self acceptance, they said it has helped them with ideas to accept themselves. Another would be after my first training session with a school district, they invited me out again, and said it has helped them understand more about the students.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
My resilience started at a young age when autism was not understood that much. I was bullied by classmates and teachers didn’t help when I needed it. as the years when by I had to figure out how to do things on my own and mask my autistic traits to try and be involved with peers when it came to group projects. with all the bullying, I used that as fuel to push me to where I am today. has it been easy? No, and that’s ok. I remind myself how far I have come and continue to push myself.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I built my social media presence by following the topics that interest me (autism, sports, music, etc.) and after sharing my blogs, resources, and connecting with autism parents, it helped launch my presence and now have one for my business.
