Alright, Martin thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Talk to us about building your team? What was it like? What were some of the key challenges and what was your process like?
It was just me from the start in 2018. I often spent between 12-16 hours each day working on the business and building it. There were weeks at a time that I would pretty much stay at home and work away. Eventually, as I started to get more clients, my processes started to break down and around this time I came in contact with my business partner in mid 2020. He wisely told me to start bringing on employees and building a team which was good advice.
After that, I tossed up a hiring ad on Indeed and was surprised by how many applications I got. I had a lot of sifting to do but eventually I found some solid matches. Our interview process is by no means complex or tough to get through. For me, I always wanted to get an idea of how the applicant did in past positions, what they do in their off time, what they are passionate about, what their goals are, and of course, I test to see if they actually show up to the phone interview and in person interview.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Sure – my name is Marty Kier. I own a company named Brand Buddy here in Colorado. I have always been interested in marketing since I was 13, so much so that I started 17 business experiments since then. Some worked, others did not, but that’s how you learn. Each business relied heavily on digital marketing, but I did outsource a few times to other agencies and noticed that there was an issue with their services. Whether it was communication, skills, or simply experience, I knew I could make an agency that did better.
My agency provides social media marketing, posting on social media channels, web design, SEO, email marketing, and Google ads primarily. We focus on communication and getting business owners what they want – sales and leads. We currently serve 45 clients ranging from small business to global enterprises. Typically we can achieve between a 2-10X return on investment.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
This one’s easy – I’d chalk it up to existing clients and connections with their high-quality referrals. Once you make one business owner happy, they share it with their friends and so on. Of course, a good interaction with our business is not possible without committed and focused team members.

This is something that we are really proud about! We provide in-depth monthly reports and for some of our clients, we also hop on a weekly or bi-weekly call with some clients if they desire. We’re always open to scheduling a chat with our clients at any time too. So we certainly keep in touch with our clients. For the clients that stick around with us, we often will toss in complimentary services once in a while as a thank you.
