We recently connected with Martha Underwood and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Martha thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
You know what my parents got right? They taught me not to be afraid of taking risks. My dad? He’s the BEST ever! He left Haiti and risked everything to move to the Bahamas, and then he did it all over again to come to the United States. And why’d he do it? So that we could have a shot at opportunities that we might never have had if we stayed put.
Through all the craziness, my dad showed me that if you want a better life, you gotta be bold. You gotta take those leaps of faith. He faced his fears head-on, knowing that what was on the other side was worth all the risks.
My dad didn’t just give us a new life in a new country – he gave me the tools to tackle anything that comes my way. He taught me how to be tough, how to adapt, and how to go after what I want, no matter how scary it might seem.
In a world where everyone’s always playing it safe, I’m beyond grateful for what my parents taught me. They showed me that the biggest risks can lead to the biggest rewards, and that’s a lesson I’ll never forget. It’s made me who I am today, and it’s opened up a world of possibilities that I never could have imagined.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Absolutely! I’m Martha Underwood. I’m thrilled to share a bit about myself and the journey that led me to where I am today.
I’m the founder of Prismm, a digital vault service that aims to make life easier for families by ensuring that vital financial and personal information is securely stored and easily accessible when needed the most. My path to creating Prismm was deeply personal. It all started after an emergency with my dad, which served as a wake-up call. In that moment of crisis, we struggled to find important documents and information. That experience opened my eyes to a widespread problem – the difficulty families face in accessing critical information when it matters the most.
At Prismm, we offer a service that helps people organize their financial and important documents, like wills, insurance policies, and medical directives. Our digital vault is designed to ensure seamless intergenerational wealth transfer and make sure no vital information gets lost or forgotten.
What sets us apart from others is our specialized focus on the seamless transfer of wealth and information across generations. We leverage strong encryption and privacy controls to safeguard our users’ most important data. Unlike other services, Prismm is laser-focused on ensuring that legacies are protected and passed on effortlessly, providing peace of mind to families during stressful times.
I’m incredibly proud of the impact Prismm is having on families and financial institutions alike. We’re not just a digital vault; we’re a bridge that ensures the continuity of family legacies, offering security and accessibility in ways that truly matter. Our mission is to empower financial institutions to provide their clients with an innovative solution that simplifies the complexities of estate planning and wealth transfer.
For those of you considering Prismm, know that we’re here to provide not just a service, but a promise of security, continuity, and peace of mind. We’re committed to transforming the way families manage and transfer their wealth, ensuring that vital information is always at hand, especially during life’s most challenging moments.
On a personal note, I’m also deeply passionate about service and community, values instilled in me by my mother, who did an impeccable job raising seven children and ensuring we all felt included and bonded. This sense of service is something I carry into my work with Prismm, as I strive to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Building a reputation in any market takes a mix of dedication, authenticity, and a deep understanding of the needs of your audience. For me, a few key factors have helped establish my reputation within the digital vault and financial services industry.
First and foremost, personal experience and passion have been crucial. My journey began with a deeply personal emergency involving my dad, which highlighted the critical need for a service like Prismm. Sharing this story has resonated with many people who have faced similar challenges, helping to build a genuine connection with my audience.
Commitment to solving a real problem has also been essential. Prismm addresses the very real issue of ensuring that vital information is accessible when it matters most. By focusing on the pain points families experience during times of crisis and offering a reliable solution, we’ve built trust and credibility with our users.
Another significant factor has been listening to feedback and continuously improving our service. We’ve made it a point to engage with our users, understand their needs, and adapt our offerings accordingly. This user-centric approach has helped us build a service that truly meets the needs of our clients.
To sum it up, being transparent and engaging in authentic communication with our users has helped me and Prismm build a solid reputation in our market.

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
One book that I find incredibly insightful is “Scary Smart” by Mo Gawdat. This book delves into the future of artificial intelligence and its implications for humanity. Gawdat’s exploration of AI has influenced my thinking about how technology can be leveraged responsibly and ethically in business, which is crucial for a company like Prismm that handles sensitive information.
Another must-read is “Career Warfare” by David D’Alessandro. This book offers practical advice on how to navigate and succeed in the corporate world. It’s a great resource for understanding the importance of personal branding and strategic career management, which are vital skills for any entrepreneur.
Lastly, “Dare to Lead” by Brené Brown has significantly influenced my management philosophy. Brown’s emphasis on vulnerability, courage, and empathy in leadership resonates deeply with me. Leading with authenticity and creating a culture of trust and openness is something I strive for in my work with Prismm.
These resources have collectively shaped my approach to entrepreneurship and management, reinforcing the importance of innovation, ethical responsibility, personal branding, and purpose-driven leadership.
