We recently connected with Martha Argyriou and have shared our conversation below.
Martha, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
When I was 16, I left Greece and moved to California. That alone felt like a huge leap — new country, new culture, new language. I was just a teenager, but even then, there was a voice in me pushing for more. I didn’t know exactly what “more” meant at the time, but I knew I had to find out. Eventually, I moved to London to study psychology. I loved the city instantly. I spent five years there — studying, working as a mental health supporter, and building a life that, in many ways, made sense. But there was always something else tugging at me.
Acting. The curiosity of becoming someone else.
It wasn’t just a hobby. It was the thing that lit me up inside. I started taking classes in London, with the amazing Drama Classes London, performed in plays, and shot my first short film. Those moments felt honest, like I was finally doing something that was fully me. But still, I was scared to really go for it. Acting felt like a dream that people politely smile at but secretly doubt.
Eventually, I reached a point where I knew I had to try — fully. No half-steps. So I auditioned for drama schools.
I didn’t get in.
So I tried again.
Still nothing.
I almost stopped. It’s hard not to take it personally when something you love doesn’t seem to love you back. But I gave it one more try — and that time, I got in. To an acting school in New York.
Saying yes meant saying goodbye to London — a place I deeply love. That was incredibly hard. But I realized that staying would’ve been the safe choice, not the honest one.
So I took the risk. I moved. I started over. Again.
It’s been challenging, humbling, and sometimes scary — but I’ve never felt more aligned with who I am. Acting is the thing that makes me feel most alive. And chasing it, even when it felt out of reach, was the best risk I’ve ever taken.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am an actress. Sometimes, I still find it hard to say that out loud — not because I don’t believe it, but because it carries so much weight. But yes, that’s what I do. I act. I create. I tell stories.
I’m also a very curious human being. I love asking questions, pulling threads, and seeing what’s underneath the surface of things. That’s what drew me to acting in the first place — the chance to step into someone else’s shoes, to explore all the complexities of being human, and to reflect those truths back to an audience.
I’ve also directed two plays, which was an entirely different kind of magic. It’s not just about telling a story — it’s about how you tell it. I like presenting ideas in new ways, turning things slightly on their head, inviting people to consider that maybe there’s another way — another door, another perspective, another path we haven’t noticed before.
We’re often raised with a fixed sense of how things should be, what’s right, what’s normal. But storytelling has the power to loosen that grip a little. It can open hearts, shift thinking, and quietly say, “What if it’s not the only way?”
That’s what I do as a creative — I offer different angles, new lenses, moments of reflection. Acting and creating are not just passions — they’re my way of connecting with the world. Of saying something honest. Of making space for curiosity and truth.
And the most beautiful part? You get to share it with people. Whether it’s one person in a small theatre or a thousand in a cinema, that moment of connection — that shared breath, that silence, that laughter — that’s everything.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Seeing your Story and voice out there and hoping that someone out there might relate to or feel less alone.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
