Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Marteze Braden. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Marteze thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s start with what makes profitability in your industry a challenge – what would you say is the biggest challenge?
In the beauty industry, its often described as over-saturated. Not only that, we live in a culture that encourages entrepreneurship, which, is not a bad thing at all. But, it becomes a challenge when there are people in the industry who dont have the passion and take up space, clients, customers and it feels like those who have the heart for the industry are left out.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Im an entrepreneur who believes in making every woman feel at home within themselves. Beauty is more than just the surface. When a woman looks her best, she feels her best. She is empowered and able to conquer whatever comes her way. Oshun Beauty was born from this mission. Oshun is the Orisha ‘Goddess’ of Beauty. Every aspect of my brand, from beauty products, braids, braided wigs, and permanent makeup are a direct reflection of my passion to spread this beauty to women. I make it my business to give women a soft experience when they are in my chair. Candles, music, and encouranging, empowering conversation.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is to lead a legacy of women, starting with my children who know beauty inside and out. My daughters watch me do what I do and they make it known that they admire me and what I do. I want them to also lead with other girls and embody confidence and strength.

Has your business ever had a near-death moment? Would you mind sharing the story?
There have been quite a few times when I thought I would be done in the beauty industry. Times that no one booked for a week or two. Times that I was not confidence in my work because comparing stole my joy. Times that I was overworked. My passion had always kept me going. My love for making women look and feel beautiful has kept me going. Every time I have wanted to give up, someone would randomly send a sweet message or recommendation and I would know it was a sign to keep going.
