Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Martez TezThaGreat Mosley. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Martez TezThaGreat, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Do you wish you had started sooner?
I definitely would have started sooner. I didn’t take it as seriously as I should because I didn’t know I could make it Into a career. After I began selling poetry to the older classmen in Highschool, I knew writing was going to be an outlet for me. I never imagined I would get paid for it. I also wouldn’t have let some people’s opinions sway me from doing music earlier in life. I would’ve started learning more about the industry and business and moved to Atlanta sooner as well..
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My first Introduction into the industry was via Tiffany J., manager of Karen Civil and Youngberg aka Hitmaka. I’ve had a publishing agreement with her for Meshach Media. She was the first person to take me seriously and give me a shot, and I’m forever grateful for that experience. I feel one of my characteristics that sets me apart is that I love the process. I enjoy getting out in the public, meeting people, and developing relationships to excel my career to a higher level while also meeting some great people who have became friends in the process. Currently, I am an A&R for Bangvillage USA. We provide an array of services which includes songwriting, production, management, and publishing. I was most proud of being recruited into Bangvillage to be a part of something bigger than myself, and they saw the value I added. So, that is my proudest moment in my career thus far.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
Yes, there are two books that have had impact on my career. The first is All the Things You Need to Know About the Music Business Vol 10 by Donald S. Passman. I thought I knew a lot, but this book definitely let me know I have so much more to learn as well as opened my eyes to many facets of the business I wasn’t aware of.
The second book is informationtional and also entertaining. L.A Reid’s Sing to Me.
It gave me an outlook on music and the process I’ve always felt, but let me know I wasn’t alone in enjoying doing the hard work. It makes the wins much more enjoyable when they come, and they will.
: Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
The goal that is driving me is my future with my family. I want to be with them and spend as much time with them as possible. So being a creative and achieving my goals, or mission, is key to giving me the freedom to do so. Another incentive is that I just love music no matter the area. I love all aspects of it, the ups and the downs. Whenever we as creatives make something we’re proud of, we’re always happy but even more if our ideas and thoughts bring joy to others. Knowing I made someone else’s day from being creative, when naysayers thought it was just a hobby and not a real career, is golden to me .
