We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Martesha Haynes-Lagard a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Martesha thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Crazy stuff happening is almost as certain as death and taxes – it’s technically “unexpected” but something unexpected happening is to be expected and so can you share a crazy story with our readers?
Well for me it’s when a person reaches out in the community that’s in need of assistance with food or hygiene supplies, we give it to them as they come back each week to find out that they’re selling our products to other people. Knowing that I couldn’t do anything about it, because once we give it out there is really nothing we can do. I felt so angry inside but I had to let them know that we don’t give out things for them to be sold, we give out things to help the people that are experiencing hardship and going through a tough time at the moment, so, yes, I was definitely kind of upset about that happening.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
How I built my audience on social media was creating events in the City Of Houston hosted by my nonprofit organizations Social Good In Action, Inc. My mission was being able to aid children and families, assist in community outreach, aid in disaster relief, and to empower Men & Women through economic and educational resources. During many events I captured many pictures to show our donors how we used the funds to support the people in our community.
Our vision is being dedicated to connecting with issues in the community, world and causes that are in need to be noticed more than others. (SGIA) is geared toward helping out children with disabilities mainly Autism as well as their families. We conduct fashion shows, community disaster relief, concerts and service events when planning fundraisers and charity benefits.
Our organization also focuses on helping organizations and non-profit organizations raise money for community services and programs that support children affected by developmental disabilities, abused, murdered, missing children, homeless & sheltered families in need.

Very good message and l think you are accurate when you said ‘ Once we give it away there is nothing we can do’ im impressed with the consistency you display when you give back to the entire city despite of those that are misappropriating the blessings. This quality shows that your Social Good is taking action and the greater good is more powerful than the individual intentions of those who take it for personal gains. I applaud you for that Sister. Continue to fight the good fight and God will continue to handle the rest
