We recently connected with Marta Napoleone Mazzoni and have shared our conversation below.
Marta, appreciate you joining us today. Alright, so one thing we think people don’t talk about nearly enough is investments – either time or money. What’s one of the best or worst investments you’ve made and what did you learned from the experience?
The best investment I ever made as a business owner was in myself. It was a combination of healing practices, communication, leadership and coaching techniques that I put back into me.
I always grew up with the idea of investing outside of myself, so when this concept crept in, it took on a whole new meaning and truly aiding me in forming and aligning my intentions and business as it is right now.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I help individuals rediscover who they are after loss and to find more mindfulness, beauty, and joy again in life.
I do this using my four pillars of healing-
Meditative Awareness- Going quiet through meditation to find clarity.
Explorative Travel- Moving physically or journeying inward to gain a deeper perspective of self.
Structured Support- Providing mentorship, resources, tool kits, and integration practices that best support the individual on their path long after we have worked together.
Creative Play- Opening individuals to the power of play and reminding them of their creative joy through games and unique out-of-the-box practices.
In-person, I speak and educate around the world to normalize grief, hold retreats on land and sea, and host Play, Mindfulness, and Manifesting Workshops for events and teams. 100% of individuals are grieving and my work is focused on shining a light on a subject shrouded in shame in an approachable, playful, unique way making us all feel less isolated and connected to our hearts.
I got to where I am today through many forms that are too long to write here! I will say my first heartbreak in my 20s had me stepping on a plane to take flight on a solo adventure tomb excavation in Sicily. That first step of travel was a way of reconnecting with my true self and uncovering what else was ready to be revealed on my healing journey. After traveling abroad extensively by myself, I worked and gained recognition as a leading sales manager for my family’s food service distribution company which resulted in a car accident that took away my ability to move without pain. I then through meditation began the journey inward to be comfortable with stillness and guiding others with their practice as well.
It was around this time I began shifting my relationship with alcohol and breaking down habits and patterns that were holding me back from the version of myself I wanted to become. I created an award-winning podcast called Marta on the Move which interviews everyone from celebrities to local figures and documents my own journey back to myself. At this time I created an online course called 3 To Be Me Journey, and began getting requests from individuals for coaching.
My sister’s death at the age of 47 in 2021 revisited the subject of loss, this time in a much more profound way for myself and my family. I began studying grief in depth and became certified as a Grief Recovery Specialist that following year.
This January I am launching a new online healing course called “Unleashing Your Creative Joy” that focuses on breaking down the roadblocks that hold us back from living our most creative lives.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
My sister Nina died of Lymphoma in 2021. She was my best friend and closest soul.
After she died, I dedicated myself to healing and learning. I never stopped. There was a moment where I wanted to turn everything off.
“Where is the off switch?!” I wanted to shut down relationships. Run away. I wanted to close my heart forever because I was terrified of being hurt that badly ever again. I didn’t want to lose anyone or anything again.
It is my resilience in embracing that with the highs of loving come the lows that I am most proud of. That I continue to love and live fiercely.
I am building a community called “ Yes AND to life” that is all about this.
A community of support and creative healing.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn everything I had ever been taught about grief in order to unpack the shame we all carry surrounding its myths and misinformation.
We are raised with a certain idea that grief is linear. It isn’t.
We are raised to believe we can “move on” from our grief when really it never leaves you just learn to walk beside it.
We are raised to believe that we need to keep busy, keep our chins up, and grieve alone when the exact opposite is true in order to have a sense of belonging in this world. To truly connect with others.
