We recently connected with Marta Aguirre and have shared our conversation below.
Marta, appreciate you joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
Actually, all the projects I have done have been very meaningful to me, because at the very moment I created them I poured all my soul into them. I will talk about one of several projects, “Garden Dialogues”. It is an essentially pictorial project, where I work with elements that I love in the pictorial medium; light, contrast, harmony, tones, saturation, color, shape, texture, line, etc.. All these are essential elements in this project. Hence the idea of associating it with a garden, because I want to express a world of color, light and life.
Therewith, my intention is each work being a synthetic experimentation of color and form, a journey to other dimensions beyond reality itself. Each color has a different dimension, a unique behavior and a life of its own. The dialogue in this pictorial project, concludes in a personal and unique imprint, where I can create a universe of color and light, intimate and free.
The obtained result in this project is introspective, because it is a painting that speaks of me, it is directly associated with my own character. I have managed to recreate a style where I am myself. Intense works, as if they were windows of light, where harmony reigns, and the joy of living is found in each of the colors that vibrate within all the works.

Marta, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
It has always been clear to me dedicating myself to art, since I was eight years old, found in it my refuge, where I grew up creating my drawings and paintings. The art world has always been for me a space in which to feel free. To be able to expose who I am, what I feel or think without the constant presence of those who judge. Art has always given me the answers, it has offered me the possibility to imagine, to create stories, to be impressed, to look, to express my deepest emotions and to find peace in the result. Art has been a space in which I have been able to be myself, and it has always connected me to the present. When working on my artwork I go into a state of meditation where I find my essence. It is right in that moment where my heart speaks and the result is something authentically true. Therefore, when I exhibit my works, I expose my naked soul, I give all that I am and this makes me feel free, it makes me very happy.
I work different disciplines related to visual arts, painting, printmaking, illustration and design. In all of them always try to create original, different, unique and authentic projects. Nowadays it is very important to differentiate yourself, and originality is the way to do it. That’s why I think it’s important to delve into the unknown, although many times I miss , when I find a great success, the resulting work shines in a different way. I think that’s one of the most important things an artist should practice, to create what doesn’t exist. I love to innovate and do things differently, it bores me to always do the same things. I always want to learn, to be excited, to be enthusiastic…it’s as if I have to constantly respond to my intuition, to my heart, even though my reason often disapproves this behavior.
I have always thought that an artist’s work should stand on its own. We must take advantage of the marvelous capacity that art has to transcend time and people. Even if the artist disappears, his work can move future civilizations. Therefore, I am very happy to be able to move people with my work. There are people who told me that my work helps them to live better. That my work transmits joy and a zest for life. They feel a positive energy that fills them with love and joy, and they feel grateful to be able to live this.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
The best thing society can do for artists is to promote their work, encourage artistic production and invest in cultural education to spread the importance of art for society. A creative society is a happy society. To transmit the value and potential that creativity and talent have for society and for life. Creativity can even save our lives on certain occasions. Creating is one of the wonders that we have as human beings, and this condition is very little valued in society. Most people don´t know how to value what art represents for society, they think that art is good for nothing, and nothing could be further from the truth. Art makes us think, imagine, makes us more sensitive, influences our perception and is capable of questioning imposed realities. For me, the ability to imagine, to create ideas and transform them, to make them reality is what makes me happiest in this world. It is the best of luck to be able to live in an environment where this is possible.

Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Valuing myself as an artist and putting a price on my work. It is very important to value ourselves in order to make a living from our creative work. Many people have tried to take advantage of my talent because apparently “it didn’t cost me anything to do it”, they don’t know the enormous effort behind a great work, or a creative work, as well as the time dedicated to develop and train talent. It is true that we artists are so fascinated and satisfied with the result that we often forget all the time and effort we have put in, because in a way, the result compensates for everything. But bills are not paid with satisfaction, they are paid with money. Therefore, we have to learn to put a price on our work, to charge for the ideas, the works created, or the proposals. It is worth what we estimate, if they want to pay or not it is their problem. When we begin to value ourselves, others also begin to value us and accept to pay what we estimate.
